Google Photos Adds New Image Flip Feature: Here’s How It Works
Google Photos now includes a new photo flipping feature that lets users mirror photos horizontally. The addition expands the app’s existing toolset, which already offers smart organization, editing options, and easy sharing.
Report indicate Google Photos has begun rolling out the horizontal flip feature, which is currently available to a limited set of users. Google plans to expand the update to all users in the coming days via a server-side rollout.

Previously, Google Photos users could only rotate, resize, or adjust the aspect ratio of their photos using the app’s crop tool. The new horizontal flip option will appear next to the rotate button once the update is fully rolled out.
Before this update, users had to use third-party apps or other methods to achieve a similar effect. Adding the ability to flip photos to Google Photos’ editing tools makes it easier to customize and enhance photos.

How to use Google Photos’ image flip feature
To use the photo flip feature, open the photo you want to edit in Google Photos and tap the “Edit” button. Locate the “Flip” option in the crop tool. Tapping this option will mirror the photo horizontally.
This update is expected to be available to all users soon. While this feature may seem small, it offers a valuable improvement for both casual users and professional photographers by streamlining the photo editing process.

In addition to this update, Google Photos has begun rolling out the “Ask a Photo” feature to users in the United States. Announced at Google I/O 2024, the feature uses advanced Gemini models to understand the context of a user’s photo library. It helps locate specific memories by recognizing important people, interests, and favorite foods, improving the search experience within the app.
