Hayao Miyazaki’s concept art collection will begin to appear
Publishing house Iwanami Shoten will begin releasing the complete collection of Hayao Miyazaki’s concept art from December 2024. So far, we know for sure that you will be able to buy the books about Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Castle in the SkyAnd My neighbor is Totoro. [Thanks, Comic Natalie!]
The book release schedule will be Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind And Castle in the sky on December 5, 2024. Then, sometime in March 2025, you will be able to receive My neighbor is Totoro. Iwanami will then release some of the previous films and shorts that Miyazaki has made or participated in.
Each book will contain concept art that Miyazaki has hand-drawn for the images and story panels. The artistic idea was for all staff to be on the same page about the aesthetics and worldview of a particular film. Because Iwanami used a very powerful scanner for the original prints, there is as little loss of quality as possible. Additionally, each artwork in the book is faithful to the actual size of the panel. Each book also contains information, artwork, unreleased works, and stories based on the films and artworks in question. Toshio Suzuki, president of Studio Ghibli, will also write a foreword for each.
Hayao Miyazaki’s concept art books will begin rolling out in December 2024. For those who want to get their Studio Ghibli fix first, Netflix recently picked up the rights streaming rights ARRIVE Firefly grave And The boy and the heron.
