Here are 3 ways you can earn Hyatt Globalist status

Hyatt’s global position is among the best elite hotel status you can earn. Many travelers—myself included—would argue that this is the best thing ever. While my husband and I maintain top-level elite status with multiple hotel loyalty programs, we make it a priority to requalify for Hyatt Globalist status each year.

Eligible for World of Hyatt Globalist status isn’t easy to earn, as you need 60 qualifying nights or 100,000 base points per calendar year. There aren’t many shortcuts to achieving Hyatt Globalist status, although you’ll get lifetime Globalist status after you earn 1,000,000 lifetime base points. However, 1,000,000 lifetime base points requires spending around $200,000 with Hyatt.

Check out our guide to Hyatt Global Status to find out why many travelers prefer first class World of Hyatt Elite StatusIn this guide, I will discuss the three main ways to achieve Hyatt Globalist status.

Level Qualifying Night

As mentioned above, you can earn Hyatt Globalist status by staying 60 qualifying nights with Hyatt in a calendar year. Specifically, you will have Globalist status until February of the second calendar year after qualifying.

Hyatt defines a “tier-eligible night” as when you stay overnight at a Hyatt hotel or resort, pay a qualifying rate, or redeem a free night award, and link your membership number to the reservation. However, if you book a promotional rate that offers a free night—such as a “stay four nights and get the fifth free” rate—the free night will not count toward your tier-eligible night. Likewise, stays booked or paid for on a group’s primary account will not earn you a tier-eligible night.

You can earn Hyatt Globalist status by staying at Hyatt for 60 tier-eligible nights in a calendar year. If those nights are all at off-peak Hyatt Category 1 hotels, you can earn Globalist status for as little as 210,000 Hyatt points per calendar year. Likewise, paying an average of $150 per night can earn you Hyatt Globalist status for $9,000 per calendar year.

However, as I’ll discuss in the following subsections, there are ways to reduce the number of nights you have to stay at Hyatt each year if you want to qualify for Globalist status through tier-qualifying nights.

If you think you won’t meet the 60-night requirement for Hyatt Globalist status, you might consider rearranging your travel schedule to take full advantage of the elite member double-night promotion.

Spend with Hyatt credit card

If you want to achieve Hyatt Globalist status, you should seriously consider adding World of Hyatt Credit Card or World of Hyatt Business Credit Card into your wallet. Both cards let you earn Hyatt points on purchases and offer a variety of benefits for Hyatt loyalists. But these cards also let you earn tier-qualifying nights.

With the World of Hyatt Credit Card, you’ll earn five tier-qualifying night credits each calendar year, and you’ll earn two additional tier-qualifying night credits every time you spend $5,000 with your card (these nights will roll over into the calendar year in which the spending occurs). That means you could spend $140,000 with your World of Hyatt card each calendar year to earn Hyatt Globalist status.

And with the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card, you’ll earn five qualifying night credits for every $10,000 in purchases each calendar year. That means you could spend $120,000 on your World of Hyatt Business Card each calendar year and maintain Hyatt Globalist status without any stays required.

However, as I’ll discuss later in this guide, very few Hyatt loyalty customers will earn Globalist status from credit card spending alone. Instead, most loyalty customers earn tier-qualifying nights through a variety of means.

Guest of Honor Award

By the end of 2023, World of Hyatt Announces Changes to how popular it is Guest of Honor Benefits active. Hyatt members can now earn Honored Guest awards through Hyatt Milestone Rewards program and lifetime Globalist members will receive five annual Guest of Honor awards.

Hyatt members who gift an Honored Guest award to another member will now receive a tier-eligible night when the member they gift the Honored Guest award to completes their stay. So gifting an Honored Guest award is now a way to earn a few tier-eligible nights each calendar year.

Spend with Hyatt

You’ll also be eligible to become a Hyatt Globalist in any calendar year in which you earn 100,000 base points. And you’ll earn lifelong globalization when you accumulate 1,000,000 base points over your lifetime.

Base points are different from bonus points. Specifically, you will only earn base points on eligible rates, eligible incidentals, and eligible non-stay charges at Hyatt properties. Specifically, for these eligible charges, you will earn 2.5 base points per dollar at Hyatt Studios hotels and 5 base points per dollar at other Hyatt properties.

You can earn base points for up to three rooms per night. However, members must pay the eligible rate for all rooms and stay in at least one of them, and all rooms must be in the same hotel or resort.

To earn Hyatt Globalist status, you’ll need to spend $20,000 on qualifying expenses at Hyatt properties (not Hyatt Studios, which have a lower threshold) each calendar year. This can be on a short but extremely luxurious vacation or on multiple actual vacations throughout the year.

Matching status

World of Hyatt doesn’t typically offer public status incentives. However, in 2023, we saw 90-Day World of Hyatt Trial and Challenge for Bilt Rewards Members that makes it possible to achieve Global status in just 20 nights. By the end of 2023, some AAdvantage members receive Hyatt status challenge offers through the American AAdvantage and World of Hyatt partnership. Finally, Reception key Members will receive Globalist status when they link their AAdvantage and Hyatt accounts.

If you’re looking for a shortcut to World of Hyatt status, it might be worth it. Link your AAdvantage and Hyatt accounts and join in Bilt Rewards program, as we have seen opportunities before through these programs.

Decide how you will earn Hyatt Globalist status

Unfortunately, there is no way to earn Hyatt Globalist status through a combination of base points and tier-qualifying nights, so you’ll want to consider at the beginning of each year whether you plan to earn Hyatt Globalist status through tier-qualifying nights or base points.

If you plan to qualify through base points, you’ll want to focus on paid Hyatt stays at eligible rates. You’ll also want to make sure to charge all eligible expenses to your room to maximize the number of base points you earn.

But if you plan to earn Hyatt Globalist status through tier-qualifying nights, you’ll likely want to earn those nights through a combination of methods. For example, this year I’m looking to earn the following:

  • 49 qualifying nights at Hyatt hotels and resorts
  • Five qualifying nights as a World of Hyatt credit card holder
  • Six qualifying nights when you spend $15,000 with my World of Hyatt Credit Card
  • Two nights level qualifying from Guest of Honor award giving

Of my 49 eligible nights, I booked 15 nights at a paid rate, used a free night certificate for five nights, and redeemed 382,000 points for the remaining 29. I earned most of my Hyatt points through spending on the Hyatt credit card, using Hyatt Promotions And Transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards Points to Hyatt.

Last line

Hyatt Globalist status is valuable because of the perks it offers when it comes to stays. However, the status requires 60 qualifying nights or 100,000 base points, which can be difficult for loyalists to achieve each calendar year—especially since the shortcuts to those requirements are minimal. But with some planning and a World of Hyatt Credit Card or World of Hyatt Business Credit Card in your wallet, you can earn Hyatt Globalist status without spending 60 nights or $20,000 with Hyatt each year.
