Hoda Kotb says her time on ‘TODAY’ will end in 2025


After nearly three decades of broadcasting daytime television, Hoda Kotb will say goodbye in 2025. On Thursday (September 26), she announced her upcoming departure from the ‘TODAY’ show. However, according to program websiteHoda will continue to be a member of the NBC channel.

Hoda Kotb shares why she left the ‘TODAY’ show

Kotb gave a tearful TV testimony about what inspired her to make the career change after all this time. She cited her birthday celebration last month as a factor. Hoda celebrated her 60th birthday on August 9.

“I realized it was time for me to turn the page at 60 and try something new,” Hoda Kotb said. “I remember standing outside looking at this beautiful group of people with these beautiful signs, and I thought, ‘This is my peak feeling.’ And I thought it couldn’t get any better, and I decided it was time for me to move on.”

Besides feeling fulfilled with her career, Hoda also wants to spend more time with her daughters, five years old. Expect and 7 years old HaleyThe TV presenter shared that she felt her children “deserve a bigger slice” of her “time pie”.

“I feel like we only have a finite amount of time. And so, with all that said, this is the hardest thing in the world…,” the 60-year-old declared.

She later added that leaving was a “big deal” for her. Despite reportedly rehearsing her announcement so she wouldn’t cry, she still cried. As mentioned, Hoda may be leaving the TODAY show, but she will continue her 26-year working relationship with NBC. However, she did not specify in what capacity she would be leaving. As for the TODAY show, Hoda said her show will continue until January 1, 2025.

The host shares a heartfelt letter with her colleagues.

For those unfamiliar with Hoda Kotb’s career, she worked at ‘Dateline’ for 10 years before joining ‘TODAY’. At NBC, she co-hosted the fourth hour with Kathie Lee Gifford and Jenna Bush Hager. For the past five years, she has also co-hosted with Savannah Guthrie.

In an internal letter to her family on ‘TODAY’, Hoda admitted that while her decision seemed “right,” it was “painful.”

“I’ve been pondering this decision for a long time – am I really ready? But, celebrating my sixtieth birthday at the Plaza felt like a change. Like a resounding YES, you’re ready! I saw everything so clearly: my radio career had taken on so much meaning, a new decade of my life lay ahead, and now my daughters and mother needed and deserved a bigger piece of my time pie. I will miss you all terribly, but I am ready and excited,” she wrote in the internal memo.
