How to use Choice Hotel points

Earning Choice Perks points through stays, promotions, and credit cards is relatively easy. However, once you have an inventory Privilege of choice points, you may be wondering how to redeem them.

Like most points and miles, the value you’ll receive when redeeming Choice points will vary. TPG June 2024 valuation The value of Choice Points pegs at 0.6 cents each, so we generally recommend aiming for at least that redemption value. Choice offers different redemption options depending on your country of residence, but here’s what US residents need to know about redeeming Choice Perks.

Redeem Choice points for hotel stays

Typically, you’ll get the most value from your Choice Perks points when redeeming them for hotel stays. There are three main ways to redeem Choice points for hotel stays: reward nights, points plus cash stays, and Preferred Hotels & Resorts stays.

It’s worth noting that unless you redeem points through a Preferred Hotels & Resorts partnership, you can only redeem Choice points for stays that occur within the next 100 days.

Bonus night

Choice Perks determine the weekday and weekend reward night rates for each property. These bonus levels are displayed on each hotel or resort’s landing page. For example, you can book a Choice Privilege reward night starting at 6,000 points on stays at two hotels in Australia through June 30.

However, Choice Privileges recently updated most of its website to state that reward nights start at 8,000 points. This means Choice perks no longer limit night rewards to 35,000 points anywhere in the world. I recently found some hotels in Nashville and New York City that cost 45,000 Choice points per night.

I found a property in Sweden where rates were around $100 USD per night while awards hovered around 75,000 Choice Points per night. If you redeem your Choice Points for tonight, you’ll get incredible redemption value.

However, you can find awards nights that are a good value when redeeming Choice points. For example, I like to redeem Choice points for vacations in central Japan.

When you redeem Choice points, you can often book more than a basic room type at many properties. For example, on select dates, you can book a three-bedroom apartment at Quality Suites Huka Falls in New Zealand for just 25,000 points per night.

However, you can book more Choice-branded hotels with Choice points. For example, you can use Choice Perks points to stay at select Bluegreen Vacations properties (see list This). Most Bluegreen Vacations hotels cost between 20,000 and 30,000 points per night.

Availability can be elusive at some properties, but last-minute bookings are often possible. I found spacious rooms available at Bluegreen Vacations Eilan Hotel And Spa, Ascend Resort Collection, in San Antonio.

You can also use Choice Points to book select hotels and casino resorts. Most hotels and casino resorts cost 40,000 points per night or less. Check This for existing casino hotels and resorts bookable with Choice points.

You can also book all-inclusive resorts with Choice Perks points. When searching the Choice Hotels website, you can view current options by selecting all-inclusive resorts as the hotel type. At the time of writing, Choice Points are redeemable at all-inclusive resorts in Mexico and the Dominican Republic for 20,000 to 45,000 points per night.

It can be difficult to find awards at some resorts. However, I still found plenty of available rooms at Emotions All Inclusive Puerto Plata, Ascend Hotel Collection in the Dominican Republic, where One time I stayed for a whole month. Reward nights at this resort are available for 30,000 points but include rooms with direct access to the pool and lounge area, balcony, and whirlpool.

Choice Hotels’ website also lists an all-inclusive resort in Dominica. However, this resort does not list award rates and I could not find any available awards.

Finally, keep an eye out Sweet Spot Rewards selection privilege. Choice regularly offers bonus discounts at select top properties through this program.

Cash plus points

Choice also offers points plus a cash back rate if you have at least 6,000 Choice points in your account. Log in to your account, search for reward nights, and select the result that shows the points-plus-cash rate.

Once you click “View Availability” for the property you want to book, you can compare reward nights, cash points, and rates paid for each room type.

In the example above, you could pay 35,000 points, $386.62 cash (after taxes and fees), or 6,000 points plus $247 per night for a rate that allows you to cancel up until just before time your stay. If you redeem 35,000 points, you will receive a conversion rate of 1.10 cents per point. If you redeem 6,000 points plus $247, you’ll use fewer points and get a better redemption rate of 2.33 cents per point.

Preferred Hotels & Resorts

Choice Privileges members can redeem Choice points for stays at participating Preferred Hotels & Resorts properties. For a single or double room, you can expect to redeem between 20,000 and 87,000 points per night, worth between $120 and $522, based on TPG’s June 2024 valuation.

You can browse properties and book accommodation online by starting here link and log in to your Perks of Choice account. The standard 100-day booking period requirement cannot be used when you redeem Choice points for stays at Preferred Hotels & Resorts properties.

Transfer Choice points to a travel rewards partner

Money transfers usually take 48 hours, although some can take up to seven days. You can also call Choice Privileges to transfer points to Spirit Airlines Free Spirit, although the transfer process can take two to six weeks.

Use Choice Points for gift cards

You cannot convert Choice points to cash through Bakkt anymore as the consumer app was discontinued in early 2023. However, you can still get the cash equivalent of Choice Points when redeemed for gift cards.

Some retailers only offer a $25 gift card for 8,000 Choice points. But you can also redeem Choice points for higher-value gift cards with some retailers at a rate of 16,000 points for a $50 gift card or 32,000 points for a $100 gift card.

You can also redeem 5,000 points for a one-year AARP membership or 12,000 points for a three-year AARP membership.

If you redeem 8,000 Choice points for a $25 gift card, you’ll receive a conversion rate of 0.3125 cents per point. This redemption is well below TPG’s June 2024 valuation of 0.6 cents per point, so we generally don’t recommend redeeming Choice points for gift cards.

Exchange Choice points for cruise credits

You can redeem Choice points for travel credit when you book over the phone with Cruise for Choice Perks (powered by Cruise411) at 800-596-0451. You can redeem 85,000 points for $250 in travel credit or 160,000 points for $500 in travel credit.

If you redeem 16,0000 points for a $500 credit, you will receive a conversion rate of 0.3125 cents per point. This rate is well below TPG’s June 2024 Choice Points valuation (0.6 cents per point), so we do not recommend this option.

Exchange Choice points for experiences

In 2022, Choice Perks introduced the ability to redeem Choice points College sports events and experiences. Since then, Choice members have gained abilities redeem Choice points for NASCAR tickets And redeem Choice points for concerts and other events.

Contribute choice points

Finally, you can donate Choice points to selected charities.

Choice will donate $5 for every 1,000 points redeemed to most charities. However, if you donate your points to Polaris, Choice will donate $10 for every 1,000 points.
