I am Cat is as silly a VR physics game as you’d expect
Games like Goat simulationfill a certain type of niche. The player becomes an animal with different goals and purposes beyond human understanding and often interacts with the world in unexpected ways. This is especially true when a title in this sim genre also offers an open environment for exploration, and the physics-based gameplay can lead to overreacting to your limited input options. . I am Cat is a similar type of VR game, as the new Folder Game offers structural options but also the opportunity to do what we want and play around in the simulation. This means your enjoyment may vary depending on your tolerance for such things.
IN I am CatYou are a cat living in your grandmother’s house. Your goal in this VR game is essentially to become a cat with human-level intelligence without the guaranteed opposable thumbs and perhaps dexterity as well. Hijinks ensue. It’s especially up to you whether you choose to go along with the missions or do your own thing as an agent of chaos in the world.
Now, just because you’re an inside cat I am Cat doesn’t mean you demand Be a fool in this VR game. As I’ve mentioned many times, this is kind of an open-ended experience. Once settled, you can proceed with the upcoming tasks. You can attack grandma, destroy her house and ruin her day. However, you can also (and I find it more enjoyable) exist alongside her and see everything you can do in this experience. Complete the goal. Do new things. Of course, I often found myself happier not trying to do exactly what New Folder Games expected, as it made it easier for me to learn how to handle the controls and the feedback from them.
The various missions and objectives feel like they balance common sense with watching a cat do silly things. If you go up to the piano upstairs, there will be music notes engraved on it as a clue to play a song. Achieving a certain number of points in the cat-and-mouse toy will complete a mission. But then you might also find yourself looking for ways to let your cat cook while you play or carry a vase of flowers while climbing the wall. Because my problems are related I am Cat sometimes doesn’t register properly when I do certain grabbing movements, which makes these types of missions that involve moving, breaking, or grabbing items quite difficult at times. Sometimes even running and jumping forward can be difficult, which means Grandma will catch me hindering my current progress and force me to reinvigorate myself.
I’m also disappointed in the level of unlocking in I am Cat. There are some points beyond achievement. So you will always be able to see the street and outdoor area while in Grandma’s house, but you actually need to unlock access to that area. (There is an “unlocked” DLC you can buy for $19.99 that immediately lets you enter those places and gives you extra outfits and weapons like tasers.) I also encountered a bug caused the garage key not to appear as expected, forcing me to do the same. to get out, did a hard reset and luckily was able to go back and find it where it was supposed to be safe.
One thing I will note is I am Cat is one of those VR games that makes me quite motion sick. I can’t play for more than 15-20 minutes before feeling nauseous or getting a headache. There can be a lot of running, climbing, and jumping, depending on whether the player is doing dodging maneuvers or just trying to get to the top of a wall or platform. Again, the actions you’re performing and the speed at which you’re playing can affect how you feel, and it’s possible that I’m particularly sensitive to it.
Basically, I feel like you need to dive in I am Cat Expect this to be a silly VR experience due to the way all physics-based games work. Can you accomplish your goal? Maybe, if you figure out how to control and move only Right. Do you find yourself in funny and possibly humorous situations due to the reactions between objects, elements and your avatar? Sure. So I almost wish there was a demo to help people learn things. But if you’re willing to take risks and understand that things might not go as planned then it can be a fun way to spend a few days or weeks.
