IIT graduate joins Apple as product manager, now key behind new iPhone 16


IIT graduates are now leading some of the biggest tech companies in the world. Known for their skills and innovative thinking, IIT graduates are known to shine on the big stage and one such alumnus from IIT Delhi is making waves on X for the same reason. At the Apple 2024 event, the Cupertino-based giant marked the launch of the new iPhone 16 series. During the keynote, one of the major features in the iPhone 16, Camera Control, was introduced and demonstrated by an IIT Delhi graduate. The tech guru we are talking about is Piyush Pratik, who is currently the iPhone Product Manager at Apple. While Piyush is in the limelight after the launch of the iPhone 16, it is worth noting that he was also the lead product manager for the iPhone 13 series and the 2nd generation iPhone SE.

Piyush Pratik’s Journey Before Apple

Piyush Pratik has been working for Apple for over 5 years and before taking up the job at Cupertino, he has worked for several other big companies. Pratik holds a dual degree – Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) and Master of Technology (M.Tech), Biochemical Engineering & Biotechnology from IIT Delhi. After graduation, he started his career as an associate consultant at Bain & Company before moving to InMobi in 2013 as the Global Product Marketing Lead. He was then promoted to the position of Director.

In 2017, he decided to pursue an MBA at Stanford Business School. He was selected as a Reliance Dhirubhai Scholar and received a full scholarship. Soon after receiving his MBA, he was hired by Apple as a Product Manager.

As a Product Manager at Apple, he was responsible for the worldwide product management and marketing of the iPhone, one of the world’s most successful products. He worked with a cross-functional team to define the iPhone’s hardware and software features, collaborating with engineering, industrial design, operations, finance, public relations, and marketing communications throughout the complete product development cycle.
