Instagram may add a ‘Keyword Search’ feature to DMs to help users manage messages more effectively
Instagram is looking to improve the way users search through their Direct Messages (DMs). In a recent video, Instagram head Adam Mosseri answered user questions during an “Ask Me Anything” session, hinting at possible changes to the messaging system of platform. The conversation started when a user @ben_yanes asked about adding a keyword search feature in the Requests inbox. Although specific details are still unclear, Mosseri’s response suggests that the company is actively developing this feature.
Limit current DM search
Currently, Instagram users can only search for conversations with individual users in their inbox. However, this search option doesn’t scale to finding specific keywords or phrases, which can be frustrating for those who manage large volumes of messages. This feature can be especially beneficial for creators and businesses that receive a lot of spam and related questions. For example, keyword searching can make it easier to find important messages amid a sea of unsolicited messages.

Implementation plan for 2025
Mosseri acknowledged the merits of the idea and confirmed he would discuss it further with the team, saying such a feature could be rolled out by 2025.
