Introducing the cast of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – PlayStation.Blog

Hello everyone, I’m Jenn, Lead Writer and Voice Producer on Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Since the game’s reveal in June, we’ve been surprised by its reception (and impressed by eagle-eyed listeners who identified the voice in the trailer). We’re excited to finally reveal the English voice cast and share some more information about our characters and their world.

Introducing the cast of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

We’ve lived and breathed these characters for the past few years, so it was a surprise and an honor to witness our incredible voice cast bring them to life.

The actors were wonderful to work with (and all wonderful people). We had a lot of fun during the recording. The cast beautifully conveys the complexity of the characters, each shaped by the harshness of their world. Each character has been affected by profound and ongoing loss and has dealt with this in their own way.

Previously, we introduced four characters.

Charlie Cox (Daredevil) is the voice of Gustave, the chief engineer of Expedition 33. Gustave grew up in Lumière in the shadow of Paintress and has devoted his life to protecting the city. As the final school year comes to a close, Gustave is determined to defeat Paintress and reclaim the future of Lumière’s children.

Jennifer English (Bald Gate 3) plays Maelle, a shy loner who wishes to escape Lumière’s bonds. Orphaned at a young age, Maelle always felt like an outsider. Her only connection is with Gustave, her adopted brother. She was the youngest member of the Expedition, at age 16, and saw this as her opportunity to explore the outside world.

Kirsty Rider (Sandman) voices Lune, the Expedition’s chief researcher. Lune is strongly driven in her quest to defeat Paintress and complete her parents’ work. She keenly feels the weight of responsibility and the weight of the stakes involved.

Shala Nyx (The Old Guard) voices Sciel, a calm and cheerful warrior unfazed by the obstacles ahead. Overcoming her past has allowed her to accept the odds against them. They will do everything in their power, and it will be enough or it won’t be.

In the latest trailer, we introduce two new characters.

Many of you have subtly identified the voice of our beloved Ben Starr (Final Fantasy XVI), who plays Verso, a dangerous stranger who watches the Expedition’s every move.

We asked Ben how he would describe Verso and he said, “lost, lonely and dangerous” and he expects players to feel “every emotion imaginable” as they get to know his character.

Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings, Black Panther) plays Renoir, a man who tirelessly tries to save his family. He knows that victory requires sacrifice and he is willing to pay the price.

We also have the amazing Rich Keeble and Maxence Cazorla playing two of our favorite characters. We will share more about them soon.

Developing the characters was a multi-part process, including charting a detailed history of Lumière and each character’s family history, while also thinking about how previous generations reacted to the Painting. doctor. All of these elements play a role in who each character is and what they are trying to overcome.

In many ways, the writing process is the ultimate role-playing game. It’s an extended thought experiment where we put our characters, with their backstories, into these specific situations and put them in their shoes. What do they do? How do they feel? How have past experiences shaped them, and how does that influence their choices today?

The cast and characters aren’t the only new elements in this trailer. Attentive fans may have noticed new locations, in addition to new enemies. Golgra and The Tisseur are two fearsome opponents that will test your reflexes in our reactive turn-based combat.

We’ve also highlighted more transitional elements in the game. Visually assisted grappling allows Expedition members to climb to the top and clear gaps, increasing the speed at which you can explore the world.

Developing the world, story, and characters was deeply satisfying (and fun, engaging, and crazy). We’re proud and excited to share the game with everyone when it releases in Spring 2025.

We hope you enjoyed today’s reveal! Stay tuned for more information on Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. We’ve got a lot more exciting things to show you, including elements of the world, gameplay, other characters, and Behind-the-scenes sneak peeks .
