iPhone 17 Air will be cheaper than iPhone 17 Pro, new report says: What to expect

the iPhone 17 series is shaping up to be an interesting generation for two main reasons. First, the Pro models will get a major redesign. Monday, Apple is expected to launch a completely new iPhone 17 Air model, which can replace the iPhone Plus. This new addition is sure to make waves, especially with its fresh moniker. Now, one recent report from the Wall Street Journal suggests that the iPhone 17 Air will cost less than the iPhone Pro models, which contradicts previous reports from various publications suggesting the iPhone 17 Air could be more expensive than the Pro models.

Will iPhone 17 Air cost less than iPhone Pro models?

A new Wall Street Journal report says the iPhone 17 Air will cost less than the Pro models, possibly due to the simplified camera system. Now, we feel, since iPhone 16 Pro starting at $999, or $1,19,900 in India, the iPhone 17 Air could be priced similarly to the iPhone 16 Plus. In India, iPhone 16 Plus has a starting price $89,900, so it wouldn’t be strange for the iPhone 17 Air to be priced around $90,000, if the WSJ report is to be believed.

This could benefit Apple in terms of sales, as customers may not choose the new model over the Pro phone if it costs more but offers inferior optics, as a proposed report number.

iPhone 17 Air: How thin will it be?

Reports say that the iPhone 17 Air could be the thinnest iPhone ever, potentially around 6mm thick. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who has an excellent track record with Apple reports, recently mentioned that the iPhone 17 Air could be about 2mm thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro, meaning it’s about 6.2mm thick, because the iPhone 16 Pro is 8.25 mm thick. For comparison, the thinnest iPhone to date is the iPhone 6, which is 6.9 mm thick.

Additionally, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to support Apple’s next generation of silicon (Apple A19 series) and of course come with Apple’s latest AI features.
