IRCTC Down: Website faced major outage, ticket bookings and services disrupted

Reduced IRCTC is trending Google Search as the Indian Railway Services and Tourism Corporation experienced a significant outage this morning, disrupting ticketing, online cancellation and instant booking services. Users trying to book tickets through the IRCTC website and app faced severe disruption, with many saying they were unable to book Tatkal tickets. The issue is causing widespread frustration, especially for those hoping to get on a last-minute trip.

Issues with payment and ticket access

Besides failed bookings, users also face the issue of payments not going through, preventing the transaction from being completed. Some individuals also reported problems viewing or receiving tickets after attempting to book them. Complaints about the outage flooded Twitter, with customers expressing dissatisfaction about the service’s reliability. Despite the increasing number of complaints, IRCTC is yet to issue an official confirmation in this regard.

Server maintenance or network attack?

When users try to log in to the IRCTC website, they receive a message stating that the system is down for maintenance. The notice said the e-ticketing service will not be available for the next hour due to ongoing maintenance work. While maintenance usually takes place at night, the outage coincided with the critical 10am window for Tatkal ticket bookings, raising suspicions of a potential problem with the server.

The spike in complaints at 10 a.m. has led some to speculate about the possibility of a cyberattack on the platform. However, till date, there has been no confirmation or statement from IRCTC regarding this complaint.

Alternative measures for affected customers

In case online services are not available, IRCTC advises customers to call their customer care number or email to cancel tickets or submit Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR). With no further updates on the cause of the disruption, tourists remain disappointed and looking forward to an official response from IRCTC.
