Is Ellen Worth Joining Zenless Zone Zero?
Ellen Joe in Zenless Zero Zone is the first limited five-star character you can get. But is she worth pursuing or should you save your money for someone better? Here’s a quick breakdown of Ellen and her viability.
How Ellen works in Zenless Zero Zone?
Ellen in Zenless Zero Zone response DPS Role (i.e. she is actually an Attacker in the game). She is an Ice type character, which means she can freeze and Shatter enemies in battle. You can make her combos more interesting by spamming her Skill, which will make her use Sharknami and hit enemies multiple times with her tail. You can also increase her dash speed by pressing down or double-tapping the dash button. While she is in this state, you can press and hold the attack button to make Ellen dash forward with her spear and deal massive Ice Damage. You can then go straight back to her basic attack combo.
In short, Ellen is a character who wants to stay in the middle of the fight. Whenever you have space after dodging, you can circle around before rushing in to attack. This makes her fighting style somewhat reminiscent of a shark’s attack patterns.
Why should you cheer for Ellen?
As a five-star, Ellen naturally has much higher stats than other four-star attackers. Like See IN Honkai: Star Rails and Diluc in Genshin ImpactThe first five-star strikers can usually last on a team for at least a few patches, making it easy to get through the content until stronger strikers come into the game.
Zenless Zero Zone There’s also a system where the more characters from the same faction, the more bonuses each character can get. At launch, there are four characters from Victoria Housekeeping, with Ellen being one of them. Indeed, three of them (again, including Ellen) are 5-star. But in the future, you’ll be able to quickly assemble a team of Victoria Housekeeping characters to take advantage of that bonus. Zhu Yuan, who will be the second 5-star character, won’t have any characters from her faction at launch, meaning she won’t be able to take advantage of those extra stats and buffs.
Why shouldn’t you pull Ellen?
I compared Ellen to Diluc and Seele earlier. People who played those games and are familiar with the meta know that those two games were really unviable for a while. Diluc occasionally comes back depending on what new characters come out (for example, Xianyun made Diluc popular again due to his ridiculousness Dive Attack scale). However, Seele has yet to recover. While Ellen may be good now, who’s to say she won’t be beaten this year? Like stocks, there’s always a certain amount of risk when you play gacha games. I recommend playing a little more to see if any future playable characters interest you.
Adding to that point, Ellen’s personality and design may not be for everyone. Some players pull the banner more out of personal preference than who is the strongest. If you don’t like Ellen and don’t want to use her for that reason, there’s no need to force yourself to do so. A lot of characters in Zenless Zero Zone works perfectly even if they are standard 5 star or 4 star hotels.
In short
Ellen is a great five-star offensive player in Zenless Zero Zone is a great starter character for the early patches of the game. Her skill set is easy to use, meaning you can use her to practice before HoYoVerse inevitably starts introducing more complex mechanics and characters. Since Victoria Housekeeping is generally made up of useful and powerful characters, Ellen can’t hurt.
But if you really don’t like her or the way she’s handled, there will always be better characters in the future and Zenless Zero Zone She’s pretty forgiving when it comes to who you want to use in battle, so while I personally recommend backing her, the final decision is still up to you.
Zenless Zero Zone To be available on PS5, Windows PC, and mobile. You can only support Ellen during her banner time.
