Is the Amex Gold Card worth the annual fee?

The card has been was renewed at the end of July with a few new changes, including an increased annual fee, added statement credits, and new limited edition colors.

Present, Amex Gold offers a welcome bonus of 60,000 Reward Points after spending $6,000 on purchases in the first six months of card membership. Plus, new card members will get 20% back in statement credits on eligible restaurant purchases (up to $100).

Earn points
Whether you’re dining out or cooking at home, this card will help you earn some great rewards on your grocery purchases. This card earns 4 points per dollar at restaurants around the world (up to $50,000 per calendar year, then 1 point per dollar) and 4 points per dollar in the U.S. supermarket ($25,000 maximum per calendar year, then 1 point).
As of July 2024 by TPG valuation For every 2 cents worth of Amex points, you’ll essentially get 8% cash back on spending at restaurants and supermarkets.
You’ll also earn 3 points per dollar on flights booked directly with an airline or Amex travel portal. You’ll get better returns on flights through some other cardsbut this is a pretty decent reward if you don’t have another card that can earn more.

Credit report
In addition to the dining earning structure, this card also comes with two different types of value Credit You can use it to place an order.
First, you’ll get up to $10 in monthly statement credits when you use Amex Gold to pay at Dining partners involvedincluding Grubhub, The Cheesecake Factory, Goldbelly, Wine.com, and Five Guys (up to $120 per calendar year). Registration required and terms apply.
You’ll also get up to $10 in Uber Cash every month, which you can use for Uber Eats or Uber Ride in the United States (up to $120 per calendar year).
Add your Amex Gold as a payment method in the Uber app to receive this benefit. The credit will then be deposited into your account as Uber Cash each month. You must download the latest version of the Uber App and your eligible American Express Gold Card must be the payment method in your Uber account. Registration is required and terms apply.
Additionally, you will receive up to $100 per calendar year in Credit Resysplit into two $50 bi-annual credits. To use these credits, all you have to do is pay your bill with your Amex Gold card at a restaurant that’s enrolled in Resy—no reservation required. Registration required and terms apply.
Finally, you’ll get up to $7 in monthly statement credits when you use your Amex Gold card at Dunkin’ Donuts (up to $84 per calendar year). You must apply and terms apply.
None of these credits roll over and must be used within the allotted monthly or two-year time frame. If you max out these credits, you’ll get a value of $424 annually. This easily covers the annual fee, and you’ll earn generous rewards in the process.

Other benefits
The Amex Gold The impressive earnings structure and statement credits aren’t the only ways to get value from it. The card also has a number of benefits that can make traveling easier.
When you use your card to book a stay of two nights or more through Amex’s The Hotel Collection, you’ll receive an on-site credit of up to $100 toward eligible activities. Eligible activities vary by property but may include perks like spa treatments or dining.
You will also be covered if something goes wrong during your trip as this card comes with lost luggage insurance*, trip delay insurance** and rental car insurance*** when you use it to pay for your travel expenses.
