Details of Gospel singer’s lawsuit against Turkish Leg Hut

KHOU11 reports that James Fortune and his wife are suing Turkey Leg Hut owner Nakia Price after investing $300.00 in the restaurant. James and Rhaquele met Turkey Leg Hut owner Nakia Price and her husband Lyndell at this location in 2018. In December, during Price’s divorce proceedings, Fortunes loaned Nakia $100,000.

Months later, Nakia called Rhaquele to report the situation, saying that creditors were confiscating her business assets and that she needed more financial support. In response, Fortunes loaned her another $100,000.

“She was agitated because the comptrollers were there to confiscate the property and so she needed immediate financial assistance,” Rhaquele said.

Immediately after that, Fortunes invested 180,000 USD to buy 15% shares of Turkey Leg Hut. The following month, Nakia informed them that she was unable to pay her bills, so Rhaquele had to use her personal card to buy food, supplies and pay staff.

“You know, at that time we had $300,000. The bankruptcy declaration came a month after we gave that money. We discovered that they are now millions of dollars in debt,” James added.

Fortunes also covers employee salaries when the restaurant runs short, in hopes of staying in business. This week, Fortunes filed a lawsuit against Nakia Price, seeking to get their money back. The lawsuit claims that she misled them about Turkey Leg Hut’s finances and falsely represented that the restaurant was “unencumbered and free from all liability” when selling them partial ownership.
