JetBlue Cuts 7 Cities, Cuts 24 Routes With New Focus on New England
JetBlue is suspending or cutting service on two dozen routes and removing seven cities from its route map entirely as part of its latest network overhaul.
The New York-based airline, which is aiming to return to profitability, announced a series of changes on Wednesday.
JetBlue is adding seven new routes, mostly from airports in New England. And it’s bringing its Mint cabin to more domestic routes.
But the removal of new routes is the real headline.

JetBlue will temporarily suspend or eliminate service on 24 routes. The airline will completely end service to more than a half-dozen cities, including several major U.S. airports — from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) and San Antonio International Airport (SAT).
The airline is also making the latest cut to its winter transatlantic schedule, eliminating flights from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to Amsterdam from late October to late March.
However, it’s not all about cutting back and streamlining schedules.
JetBlue is adding several new routes, focusing primarily on flights between the Northeast and Florida.

The additional flights include the airline’s first service from Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT) in New Hampshire. It’s all part of a larger effort to increase service across New England, with new routes also being added in Providence and Portland, Maine, and additional flights from Hartford, Connecticut.

JetBlue said these “strategic changes” are designed to help the airline “invest and grow across New England.” The airline is planning to increase its seats in the region by 20% this winter compared to last year.
JetBlue has long had a strong presence at the region’s largest airport, Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), but has faced stiffer competition in recent years as Delta Air Lines has bolstered its presence in Boston through its hub.
“Our commitment to Boston and our loyal customers across New England remains unchanged as we continue to innovate and enhance our product,” JetBlue President Marty St. George said in a statement announcing the news.
Another Warm Mint Route
As part of its network realignment plan, JetBlue is increasing frequency on some existing routes departing from Boston and other New England airports.
Among the changes, JetBlue plans to add a second daily nonstop flight from Boston to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) and put a Mint-equipped jet on the route. As St. George explained in a Exclusive interview with TPG last monthThe airline is sending more Mint seats to warm-weather destinations this winter.
JetBlue said Wednesday that all of its flights between Boston and Phoenix this winter will offer Mint first class.
Providence, Hartford Growth
JetBlue will also triple its growth seats at Providence this winter compared to last year, while increasing frequency from Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (BDL) — both airports are home to new carrier Breeze Airways. has attracted much attention.

As mentioned, JetBlue is making dozens of additional network adjustments. These changes include pulling out of cities entirely, ending some routes, suspending other seasonal routes, and—in some cases—simply not continuing service on some seasonal routes.

Seasonal suspension
JetBlue announced that half a dozen routes that currently operate year-round will be suspended during the winter and will return in 2025.

The seasonal suspension in Amsterdam is JetBlue’s latest announcement of cancellations of its winter transatlantic schedule.
IN Other network adjustments Earlier this year, the airline announced it would cut winter flights to Paris and cancel its entire winter service to London Gatwick Airport (LGW).
Speaking to TPG last month, St. George noted the success of JetBlue’s three-year transatlantic flight, but said the airline sees a better opportunity for some Mint-equipped Airbus A321s at short-haul destinations with warm weather during the cold winter months.
“Every aircraft we fly has to live up to its highest and best use,” he said. “Looking at the level of service we have in Europe in the winter, which is a pretty severe seasonality, and then looking at the opportunities in the domestic North American market, it seemed like a no-brainer to try to make these changes.”

Boost profits
There’s a financial context to all of this. JetBlue hasn’t been profitable since the pandemic hit, and CEO Joanna Geraghty, who took over last winter, has been on a mission to cut unprofitable flights and boost the company’s financial performance.
In recent months, many airlines have lamenting the fierce competition That drove down fares and hurt profits — prompting a series of network changes.
While this trend is most evident among low-cost carriers, even Delta Air Lines’ profits came in below Wall Street expectations. earlier this month — and United Airlines executives tempered expectations for the late summer months last week.
