St. Lucia sprinter wins gold medal
Congratulations Saint Lucia Julien Alfred! The sprinter won the women’s 100 metres in 10.72 seconds at the State de France at the 2024 Paris Olympics, marking the first medal for her homeland.
Julien Alfred narrowly passed. Sha’Carri Richardsonfinished in 10.72 seconds. Sha’Carri, representing Team USA, took second place with a time of 10.87 seconds, winning the silver medal. Melissa Jeffersonalso on Team USA, won the bronze medal with a time of 10.92 seconds.
After winning the gold medal, Julien Alfred had a private talk with AP NewsThe St. Lucian sprinter was so happy that he burst into tears immediately afterwards.
βIt means a lot to me. It means a lot to my coach. It means a lot to my country. I’m sure they’re celebrating right now,β Julien said.
Julien Alfred’s victory surprised many people, because NBC News note, because Sha’Carri Richardson has shown exceptional speed and consistency throughout the 2023 season.
Despite not winning the individual gold medal, Sha’Carri still has a chance to win gold in the 4 x 100m relay on August 9. according to the New York Times.
