Kamala Harris’s Brat Summer Is Coming to an End. What’s Next?

Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus): POTUS is not running for a second term. Oh my gosh, I’m running. Oh my gosh.

Dan Egan (Reid Scott): Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait, lady, give me these straight poop ears, is this real?

Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus): It’s completely-

Dan Egan (Reid Scott): Yes.

Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus): Really?

Dan Egan (Reid Scott): Oh, thank you.

Hunter Harris: For those of you who know Veep by heart, let me tell you this is our season.

Leah Feiger: How wonderful.

Hunter Harris: But I mean, really, it’s funny how Kamala Harris is publicly despised, and privately seems to be despised.

Leah Feiger: Yes, definitely.

Hunter Harris: And then I think that worked in her favor, the extent to which the Biden campaign basically kept her in the dark.

Leah Feiger: Yes.

Hunter Harris: For all the reasons the internet and young people have fallen out of love with Kamala, her record as a prosecutor, her stance on Gaza, people have forgotten that she is not as progressive as she appears.

Leah Feiger: Absolutely, absolutely, absolutely. Yeah, she just came out. It’s an underdog story, that’s how I feel, which is funny, because she’s on the incumbent side.

Hunter Harris: It’s amazing that someone who has been so close to the presidency for the past four years is like the underdog in this story because-

Leah Feiger: Yes.

Hunter Harris: But she looks beautiful in it. I think-

Leah Feiger: Yes.

Hunter Harris: Yeah, I wonder when things will change, when politics will become-

Leah Feiger: Oh, yes.

Hunter Harris: It’s politics again, not pop culture, and then we’re like okay, we’re back to our lives where there’s nothing fun about it.

Leah Feiger: Yeah, I guess that brings me to, is the Summer of Brat over? Let’s talk about it, Biden quit, Charlie XCX wrote on X, that Kamala is Brat. The Harris campaign caught on to that, they changed a lot of things on their social media. They did things that the Biden campaign couldn’t even dream of with social media. What do you see in terms of trends changing, things changing, even discussing it? Like you can’t have a summer of brat in October.

Hunter Harris: Absolutely. I think the Brat Summer phenomenon will eventually die down, even though Obama just put a Brat song on his annual summer playlist. I said-

Leah Feiger: Like, bless the trainee, who’s like super over the top. That whole playlist, I was like, “This is amazing.”

Hunter Harris: To me, his not including Chappell Roan seems petty, like the musical story of summer not being on his playlist.

Leah Feiger: I’m looking for Hot to Go, which is the song I want to see on Obama’s playlist.
