In the letter, the former Secret Service director explained that the “scrutiny” she and the agency faced “over the past week has been intense.” Despite this, she reportedly explained that she accepts “full responsibility for the security lapses.”

As a result, Cheatle announced that she had chosen to “resign” as director of the organization. The newspaper added that Cheatle’s letter reportedly did not specify when her last day of work at the agency was.

President Joe Biden issued a statement through Official White House Website amid reports of Cheatle’s resignation.

“Jill and I are grateful to Director Kim Cheatle for her decades of public service,” the president wrote. “… The independent review to get to the bottom of what happened on July 13th is continuing, and I look forward to hearing the review’s conclusions. We all know that what happened that day will never happen again…”

The president ultimately explained that he wished Cheatle “all the best” before adding that he planned to “appoint a new Director soon.”

Meanwhile, NBC News Former President Trump reportedly took to Truth Social to respond to Cheatle’s decision.

“The Biden/Harris administration failed to protect me properly, and I was forced to take a bullet for Democracy. IT WAS A GREAT HONOR TO DO SO!” he wrote.

“I’m not going to go into the details of that day,” she is said to have explained at one point. “There was a plan to provide oversight, and we’re still looking at accountability.”
