Kimpton Tres Rios Resort is now taking reservations

Over the past few years, TPG has consistently stated that the resurgence of all-inclusive resorts is beginning and that we will soon see more and more of our favorite brands entering the space.

That time has finally come. At least for IHG, which is now taking reservations for its first Kimpton-branded all-inclusive resort, Kimpton Tres Rios on Mexico’s Riviera Maya.

If the resort’s plans stay on track, guests will be welcomed to the 355-room resort starting in mid-March, according to a booking calendar that is now open for reservations. Room rates, based on two people, will start at $499 or 86,000 IHG One Rewards points per night for a basic mangrove view room.

Book your Kimpton all-inclusive vacation with IHG One Rewards Points is a pretty good deal right now at 86,000 points (versus a $499 nightly cash rate) including taxes and fees. Booking with points gives you about 0.6 cents per point, which is a bit higher than TPG’s September 2024 valuation of IHG One Rewards points at 0.5 cents per point.

This resort will certainly be a prime example of what future Kimpton or IHG all-inclusive resorts will look like, and we can’t wait to see how this boutique hotel brand translates into a pay-what-you-pay experience. The resort itself isn’t a new build, but a reimagining of a 2008 resort that’s undergoing a complete overhaul.

When it opens, the resort will feature 20 different room types, including adults-only suites, pool suites and ocean view rooms with a small pool, all with fully stocked minibars, 24-hour room service and a fresh, modern design.

Across the property, managed by Playa Hotels & Resorts, guests can take advantage of four swimming pools, the Kej Spa with signature treatments, a 340-acre nature park with trails for hiking and exploring, beaches with snorkeling, and a variety of other recreational options such as dance, cooking and Spanish classes.

For younger visitors, there is a kids’ club, water play area and water slides.

When it comes to dining at this all-inclusive resort, there are seven restaurants and five bars offering flavors from around the world. Raices is Kimpton’s classic all-inclusive buffet restaurant, Sabina offers traditional Mexican cuisine with a mezcal bar, Bacetto has rustic Italian, and Asian fusion is the focus at Kotori, while other options include Mediterranean, classic steakhouses, and Mexican street food.

There’s also an all-day coffee shop, a swanky sports bar, an adults-only rooftop bar, a swanky main lobby bar and a poolside bar.

While we’ll have to wait to get a feel for what Kimpton’s all-inclusive resorts really have to offer, it’s worth noting that Playa Hotels & Resorts is the force behind some of our favorite all-inclusive resorts, like the luxurious Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara Resorts in the Dominican Republic. Plus, Kimpton is no stranger to resort concepts, with coastal properties stretching from Roatan in Honduras to Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands.
