Lady Gaga’s mother was the secret matchmaker for fiance Michael Polansky
Like all great romances, Lady Gaga and fiance Michael Polansky‘s started thanks to a mother who, it turns out, really knows best.
As the singer-actress revealed in a cover story for FashionOctober issue of published on Thursday, Gaga’s mother, Cynthia Germanotta, Born This Way Foundation executive director, met with Polansky, CEO of the Parker Foundation (Sean Parker of Napster and Facebook fame), and thought he would be a great match for her daughter.
“My mom met him and she said to me, ‘I think I just met your husband,’” Gaga revealed. “And I said, ‘I’m not ready to meet my husband!’ I never could have imagined that my mom… had found the perfect person for me?”
And in December 2019, ready or not, Gaga and Polansky met at Parker’s 40th birthday party.
“I was invited and I said, ‘I wonder if Michael would come,’ and my mom said yes, and so I went to the party and I kept asking him and finally he came up to me and we talked for three hours. We had the most amazing conversation.”
That conversation led to more conversations, which led to falling in love. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit and lockdowns forced the world to stay home, Gaga and Polansky headed to Malibu together. That year-long period of their relationship was what Polansky calls “this wonderful chapter of a strange kind of normalcy,” and Gaga considers “really special.”
“I had been so focused on my career since I was a teenager. And the gift of that time was that I was able to focus completely on my relationship,” she says. “I met someone who was completely supportive and loving, who wanted to get to know me—other than Lady Gaga.”
After five years of dating, the two got engaged in April while hiking. “The missing piece in my life was true love,” she said.
She described Polansky as “very private,” “very intelligent and very kind,” and most importantly, a person who they both saw eye to eye with. She thanked Polansky for encouraging her to make another pop album, and for being “a real friend who saw way in which i am not happy and why.”
“I think what I want the fans to know is that I’m just, Therefore “I’m happy,” she said. “I’m healthy. I feel like the last time they heard from me—this way—was Hue, and that album was about a terrible time for me in terms of my mental health. I was in a really dark place. I was struggling with, like, much many years ago. But things started to change.”
Gaga was engaged twice to the actor. Taylor Kinney and then became a talent agent Christian CarinoNow, thanks to her dear old mother, she thought she had found the real thing.
“I thought I would have to do everything myself—forever“And that’s really scary. Because it’s a big life.”
But now? “I don’t have to do this alone anymore.”
