LG just announced that it will expand its Gram laptop line in 2025, including the launch of the company’s first Copilot+ PC and the first devices powered by Gram AI, its proprietary hybrid AI. it uses both on-device and cloud-based AI models.

Expected to launch at CES 2025, the Gram, Gram Pro, Gram Pro 2-in-1, and Gram Book are just as thin and light as last year’s models. We have tested themand can confirm that they are among the thinnest, lightest laptops around we have ever seen. What’s new is that they are now equipped with LG’s on-device AI “Gram Chat” to process and analyze data locally, even when not connected to Wi-Fi.

Gram Chat uses a hybrid approach LG’s EXAONE large language model when offline, but when connected to Wi-Fi, it uses cloud-based AI powered by GPT-4o. LG Research released EXAONE 3.0 LLM earlier this year after a three-year development period.

So what does this mean for laptop users? AI all day, every day, whether you have Wi-Fi or not. LG says Gram Chat integrates with calendar and email apps, allowing AI to help manage users’ schedules and send and receive emails and messages. It also takes advantage of the “Time Travel” feature, which can revisit web pages, documents, videos, and audio files (which sounds a bit like a certain controversial feature of Windows).

In terms of hardware, the new Gram series is fully committed to running Intel processors, including Intel Core Ultra H-Series “Arrow Lake” and Intel Core Ultra V-Series “Lunar Lake”, specifically optimized for AI tasks . In fact, the 0.49-inch thick LG Gram Pro with Lunar Lake chip is the first in the line to be designated a Copilot+ PC and the first announced back in September at IFA in Berlin.

Lunar Lake processors have proven themselves to be high-performance chips on other devices we tested this yeardelivers marathon battery life and lightning-fast AI performance with an NPU capable of up to 48 TOPS (trillion operations per second).

The 2025 Gram Pro laptop line continues LG’s trend of offering 2TB storage options (except the Gram Book, the smaller, more accessible model) and plenty of built-in RAM. Surprisingly, however, only the Gram Pro 16-inch 2-in-1 has an OLED screen option. Here’s a breakdown of the key specs on the new Gram Pro laptop:

Regarding the selling price, LG has not yet reduced any numbers. But based on the current prices of the 2024 Gram Pro models, I estimate the first three laptops will cost well above the $1,500 mark, hovering around $2,000 and up. However, the LG Gram Book has a lower price with a relatively modest hardware set.

Another thing I’ll pay attention to is the thermal efficiency of the new processors, as the ultra-thin form factor causes the devices to run a bit hotter than I’d like. Stay tuned for full reviews once we get our hands on these ultra-thin and light machines.
