MAGA is blaming DEI for the California wildfires
When forest fires rage out of control across the Los Angeles area on Wednesdayconsuming more than 28,000 acres of land, destroying thousands of homes and buildings covering entire neighborhoods and causing the deaths of at least five people, President-elect Donald Trump, his MAGA supporters, Right-wing commentators, conservative news outlets and far-flung associates of the Right all blame it not on climate change or eight months without rain but on wokeism.
Trump—who advocates a dramatic expansion of fossil fuel extraction and use, this scientific consensus directly linked to the growing prevalence of extreme weather events—used the unfolding tragedy to attack his arch-nemesis, California governor Gavin Newsom. He claimed that the Democratic Party’s support for environmental issues was responsible for the Los Angeles Fire Department’s (LAFD) failure to prevent the worst fire in California history.
“Governor Gavin Newscum has refused to sign the water restoration proclamation put before him, allowing millions of gallons of water, from excess rain and snowmelt from the North, to flow daily into many parts of California, including including areas currently on fire. in an almost apocalyptic way,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “He wants to protect a basically worthless fish called the smelt, by giving it less water (it doesn’t work!), but doesn’t care about Californians.”
Governor’s Press Office released a statement Wednesday criticized Trump’s comments and pointed out that “there is no such document as a water restoration statement – it’s just fiction.”
The Democratic Party’s support for so-called woke policies has become an all-purpose bogeyman for the right in recent years. Like previous generations, they blame political correctness and affirmative action for various problems, following major events such as plot to assassinate Trump last July and Baltimore bridge collapse last March, they now routinely blame wokeism and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).
“Can we rename DEI to DIE since that seems to be what happens to those downstream of those who signal woke morality far above competence?!?”, Donald Trump Jr. wrote on Truth Social on Wednesday.
Trump’s confidant and billionaire X’s owner Elon Musk, have never been one and the same dodge a conspiracy theoryis also using its platform to promote misinformation about the causes of wildfires.
