Marriott just opened a new hotel in Salt Lake City’s historic train station
Historic train stations are cool — but they’re even cooler when converted into trendy hotels where you can earn and spend Marriott Bonvoy point, right?
That’s exactly what you’ll find in Salt Lake City at the now-open Asher Adams, an Autograph Collection hotel that was formerly the city’s Union Pacific Depot, built between 1908 and 1909. With 225 rooms, the French Second Empire-style depot has been reborn as a modern hotel while retaining its period features with restored features such as stained glass windows and stone floors. grinding. Its name comes from John R. Asher and George H. Adams, two American railroad cartographers.
There are 13 suites in the renovated building, all with exposed brick, picture frame moldings and bathrooms with soaking tubs and subway tiles. The remaining modern rooms of the hotel are located in a brand new eight-story tower; they give a subtle nod to the station and Salt Lake City’s history.
The original building has a place on the National Register of Historic Places, and visitors will notice elements of its former life as a train depot throughout the grounds. You’ll especially see it in stunning public areas such as the Grand Hall, as well as four bars and restaurants – each inspired by railway dining car.
Rouser offers New American cuisine served from a kitchen that uses a charcoal grill, oven and rotisserie to evoke historic coal-powered ship engines. No. 119 offers whiskey drinks overlooking the Great Hall and a vinyl lounge stocked with more than 2,500 records. The hotel’s main bar, The Bar at Asher Adams, is located in the heart of the Grand Hall and is the “heartbeat of the hotel,” according to the hotel. The partner, inspired by the club car of a train, is where guests can enjoy morning coffee, cakes and light meals.
There is also a fitness center and meeting space on site. The hotel offers easy access to downtown Salt Lake area highlights, like the Delta Center – where you can watch Utah Jazz basketball games and concerts – as well as the Museum of Art Contemporary Utah, etc
