Martin Lawrence Set to Produce TV Series ‘Young Martin’


Roomies, it looks like the show ‘Martin’ is coming back. Yes, you read that right! The story of Martin Payne is coming back to your television screens.

The ‘Martin’ Show Returns

Duration reports that the beloved 90s sitcom will return as ‘Young Martin,’ a new hour-long drama from Martin Lawrence and his production company RunTelDat, in partnership with Marvin Peart’s WonderHill Studios.

The outlet also revealed that ‘Young Martin’ will focus on Martin Payne, a charismatic teenager on the path to adulthood. The show will reprise the character of Lawrence from ‘Martin’, paying homage to the original show that aired on Fox from 1992 to 1997.

Fans will be pleased to know that ‘Young Martin’ will be set in modern-day Detroit and will continue to explore themes of family, life, and friendship.

In an interview with Deadline, WonderHill CEO Marvin Peart praised the show ‘Martin’ as a classic drama that positively portrays a group of relatable friends.

“Of all the hit shows in the 90s, there was only one ‘Martin’ — a show that defined culture and positivity,” Peart explains.

Peart continued to praise Martin Lawrence, emphasizing his contributions to African-American culture both on screen and off.

“I respect and honor Martin Lawrence for creating Martin Payne and what he did for African-American television in front of and behind the camera. In many ways, he influenced my path in entertainment, and it has been an honor to work with Martin and his younger self, as well as share him with the next generation of fans,” Peart continued.

‘Young Martin’ will follow a similar path as the ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ reboot produced by Lawrence’s longtime co-star. Will Smith.

During its five-season run, ‘Martin’ won a People’s Choice Award and an NAACP Image Award, according to Duration.

According to sources, in 2022, the original cast, including Martin Lawrence, Tisha Campbell, Tichina ArnoldAnd Carl Anthony Payne IIreunited for a 30th anniversary special on BET+. The special also featured performances Snoop Dogg And Bryan McKnight.

Based on Shade roomMartin and the cast reunited at the 75th Emmy Awards. The cast took to the stage in January for a nostalgic segment, minus the finale. Thomas Mikal Ford.
