Microsoft rolls back Bing AI image generator update after users complain about DALL-E 3 performance
Microsoft has decided to roll back the update to the AI-powered Bing Image Creator following user complaints about its output quality. The company introduced an upgraded version of the DALL-E 3 model on December 18, but many users reported that the performance of the tool decreased after the update.
Microsoft responds to user feedback
The company has not provided a detailed explanation about the rollback or the cause behind the mismatch between user expectations and results, Techcrunch reported. However, in a tweet, Jordi Ribas, head of Microsoft’s search division, admitted that some of the issues users raised may be recurring. Therefore, Microsoft is returning to an older version of the DALL-E model. Ribas points out that this process could take several weeks to complete.

Quality concerns and user criticism
After the introduction of the new model in December, users were quick to point out a decrease in the quality of images produced by Bing Image Creator. Complaints include less detailed images and images that do not match their original prompts. Ribas has previously assured users that the new model will provide better output quality than the previous version.

On platforms like Reddit and OpenAI’s community forums, users have shared specific concerns about the model’s performance. One individual complained about the DALL-E 3 model’s ability to show fabric on anime characters’ outfits, comparing the “perfect quality” image to one with poor lighting. Another user criticized the way the tool creates a starburst effect in certain images.

While these complaints reflect personal preferences and subjective opinions, they highlight the challenges Microsoft faces in addressing both technical issues and user expectations. With AI-generated art being closely monitored, it seems the company must balance improving the tool with maintaining the quality users expect.
