My Hero Academia Season 7 embarks on the final battle

It’s time to return to UA High School again and see what Class 1-A will do in the big fight against Tomura Shigaraki and All for One. My Hero Academy season 7 has finally arrivedand while it doesn’t seem like this is the final season of the long-running anime, it certainly doesn’t need to be.

First episode of My Hero Academy season 7, Episode 139 β€œAt the right time! A great Maverick from the West,” wasted no time in getting back into things. After Deku returned to UA, it seemed like the final battle with Tomura Shigaraki and All for One was preparing to take place. The episode gave some screen time to Deku and some of his classmates, but considering everything that was going on, it wasn’t much screen time at all. This actually works in the episode’s favor, as it means it doesn’t take as long to recap everything as last season premieres did.

Instead, it focuses on the newly introduced number one hero from the United States, Star and Stripe. As All Might’s student, she has both the incredible strength and the lovable hero’s penchant for ridiculous clothing. Her journey to Japan pits her against the series’ main antagonist Tomura Shigaraki along with her own fighter. The majority of the episode features the first part of the two superheroes fighting each other in a wonderful way.

The battle between Star and Stripe and Shigaraki/All for One was a great way to start Season 7. It focused less on character development and story and more on action. I don’t really mind this, since we’re so deep into the series at this point that it’s nice to see high-stakes battles like this. Like some of the best fights in the series, this one almost feels like a turn-based puzzle, in a way. We see Star and Stripe use their gravitational superpowers against Shigaraki. It looks like she will win. He protests, she protests, and it continues. During this time, we can learn more about Star and Stripe’s extremely powerful settlement capabilities.

Although much of the plot and action takes place in the sky, this does not detract from the animation. If anything, this blank canvas allows for some striking visual effects and facial animations. Shigaraki, as always, is as scary as ever. Meanwhile, Star and Stripe has all the blonde hope of All Might 2.0.

Although the episode ends on a surprising note, it’s clear that this war has only just begun. Thus, this launch did its job. It gave a great introduction to the final war and the themes of this season. At the same time, it offers a series of meaningful actions that stand out among the series’ already great battles.

I also can’t help but mention TK’s new opening song. If you loved some of his classic anime openings in the past, you’ll probably enjoy this one too. General My Hero Academy The first episode of Season 7 does everything right. It sets the stakes high again for the ultimate fight between heroes and villains. Additionally, the premiere doesn’t waste any time diving into the beginning of the finale. So, I can’t wait to continue watching the latest season of this long-running anime series.

My Hero Academy Season 7 is currently streaming as part of the Spring 2024 anime season on Crunchyroll. Viz Media handles manga outside of Japan.
