Nintendo Files “Mysterious New Wireless Device” to the FCC

Ahead of the announcement of a Switch “successor,” it appears Nintendo filed a “mysterious new wireless device” with the Federal Communications Commission late last week.

EQUAL reported by The VergeThe “model number CLO-001” doesn’t actually reveal what it is, but it’s believed to be a “brand new product.” The description tags it as a “wireless device” rather than a console or controller.

“The CLO-001 is pretty light on wireless technology—there’s no 5GHz or 6GHz Wi-Fi radio and no Bluetooth, but it does have a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi radio and a 24GHz mmWave sensor.”

Additional documentation appears to show that no “wearable accessory” is included, nor does it have a battery and operates by plugging into a USB-C charger (the same type that comes with the Switch product).

Perhaps the most “interesting detail” is the 24GHz mmWave sensor, leading to speculation that this could be a “radar sensor for motion tracking,” gesture tracking, or nearby activity detection.

Again, it seems no one knows what this mysterious device is, with the source also suggesting that it could be something like a “new gesture control interface” or even an “upgrade dock” for a device at a place like Super Nintendo World.
