Nintendo: Switch 2 Backwards Compatibility Is ‘Best Way To Go’ For Consumers
This week during the Switch 2 launch, Nintendo reconfirmed backwards compatibility with the original system.
If you’re curious to know the reasoning behind this feature, Game File’s Stephen Totilo received a response from a Nintendo representative – explaining that it’s simply “the best direction to go” as the Switch is already being used by “many consumers.” use” play.
Here is the full exchange:
Game files: “I asked Nintendo if Surname we’re still talking about third-party developer support, and a rep sent me a statement that doesn’t exactly focus on the topic but might help you better understand the compatibility approach their opposite”
Nintendo representative: “Nintendo Switch is played by many consumers, and we decided that the best path forward was for consumers to be able to play their purchased Nintendo Switch software on a legacy version of Nintendo Switch. The result of that thinking was Nintendo Switch 2 plays Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games, as well as both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games. Certain Nintendo Switch games may not be fully supported or compatible with Nintendo Switch 2. Detailed information will be shared on the page Nintendo website later.

As mentioned, Nintendo currently has nothing more to say about the Switch 2’s backwards compatibility.
What we do know is that the new system will support “both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games” but that “certain Nintendo Switch games” may not be fully supported or compatible with the model successor.
