Nintendo Switch 2 needs apps like Crunchyroll and Netflix
Nintendo Switch is near the top of the best-selling video game consoles of all time. However, that doesn’t mean the hybrid console is perfect. There are some notable features missing, especially in the multimedia section. The Nintendo Switch 2 has a chance to fix these problems with streaming apps like Crunchyroll and Netflix at launch.
As of now, the majority of streaming apps on the native Switch include Hulu, YouTube, Crunchyroll, and Twitch. It’s a pretty good choice with plenty of material to check out. Except the problem is that most of these apps aren’t available for the Switch even in the first year. It took too long for fans to be able to stream quality video content on these apps on the platform.
However, that’s not even the main issue here. There are still notable apps missing from the Switch that may never make it to the Switch. This included Netflix, Disney+, Max, Prime Video, Paramount+, etc. At one time, Nintendo’s own Super Mario Bros. the movie is already streaming on Netflix and you can’t even watch it on the company’s hardware.
It’s even more frustrating when apps like Netflix were available on previous Nintendo systems like the Wii U and even the original Wii. Now, the argument some people will make is why in 2025 will smartphones and smart TVs be so abundant? While it’s true, having options is always better than none. After all, no one is stopping the PS5 from having Netflix just because the TV you connect it to probably already has the app.
Convenience is always a good thing, and not having to constantly switch platforms is a plus. the Transfer 2 will likely have a larger screen than the original, so it would be nice to be able to stream shows and movies on it. This is especially true when traveling, where you can simply bring your Switch and your phone instead of having to lug around a bulky laptop or tablet to stream.
Then there are the benefits to the family. Parents may not want to give their young children a phone, but they will be open to the Switch. This saves them money if they have apps like Disney+ and YouTube, so they don’t need a tablet to stream. Additionally, having multiple children can be useful if one child is using a Switch, another is using a tablet, and perhaps a third is using a parent’s phone.
Ultimately, the Nintendo Switch 2 will likely be quite similar to its predecessor. This gives Nintendo the opportunity to address some of the Switch’s key flaws. Chief among these problems is the lack of streaming apps. We hope Nintendo Switch 2 will solve this problem quickly and effectively. I hope to see apps like Netflix and Crunchyroll on the Nintendo Switch 2 at launch.
Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to be announced and launch sometime in 2025.
