Nintendo would rather “Expand the organization organically” than rely solely on acquisitions
As part of its recent plans Summary of corporate management policies in fiscal year 2025, Nintendo reaffirmed its stance on mergers and acquisitions. Specifically, while future acquisitions were never off the table, it would “expand the organization organically.”
According to the briefing note, this is so new Nintendo employees can “learn and fully understand our creative culture” – as opposed to splitting things up across too many studios, we imagine.
In an era where smaller studios are constantly being snapped up by gaming giants, Nintendo has made very few acquisitions in recent years. In fact, as of 2021, the studio has only pulled the plug on mergers in a few cases. Most recently, Chilling entertainment was covered by Nintendo in May, but before that, we have to go back to 2022 when the Big N catches up Image of generator (soon renamed Nintendo Pictures) and SRDwith Luigi’s Mansion 3 The developer Next Level Games was previously acquired.
To be clear, the meeting made it clear that future purchases of this type of product are not off the table – “we do not rule out further mergers and acquisitions” – but, as always, Nintendo would rather go its own way and develop things organically before calling on others for help.
