We can’t wait for you to explore the visual improvements and new features that take full advantage of PS5 and compatible PCs. We also look forward to seeing all of your Photo Mode creations, whether you’re revisiting your favorite locations and characters or exploring the world of Horizon for the first time.

A lot of love and effort went into the creation of Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered. In a previous blogThe developers discussed at length the various innovations that Nixxes and Guerrilla have collaborated on. Today I would like to introduce you to Linda Burgers, Executive Producer at Nixxes, to share more about the process of this project:

Before starting work on Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, we began assessing what was possible. At the time, Horizon Forbidden West had been announced but was still in development. Guerrilla gave us the privilege of an early look at the sequel. The stunning visuals and overall quality we saw in Horizon Forbidden West proved to be a great opportunity for an enhanced version of Horizon Zero Dawn.

From the terrain, foliage, density, backgrounds in settlements, clouds, lighting and facial animation to the overall cinematic quality, we see a vast plain in comparison.

Additionally, we went back to the original concept of Horizon Zero Dawn to understand the original intent. Especially the density of foliage stands out. Based on what we see in the sketches, Nixxes Art Director Oscar Stegehuis has started working on illustrations for the Horizon Zero Dawn screenshots, to outline and emphasize the opportunities as well as the vision is taking shape for the remake.

Nixxes and Guerrilla’s shared vision was to not only upgrade the existing world of Horizon Zero Dawn, but also overhaul the visuals to match that of Horizon Forbidden West without losing the game’s original purpose and identity. play first. To achieve this, we were in constant communication with the art direction, animation and lighting teams at Guerrilla. Because the studios’ offices in Amsterdam and Utrecht are so close to each other, we sent people from Guerrilla to visit regularly to provide direct direction and help solve complex problems in various aspects of the studio. production process.

With the incredible efforts, talent, and dedication of the teams at Nixxes and Guerrilla as well as additional support from our co-developers at Weaseltron and Stellar Entertainment, I believe we have achieved success. work in making this a reality.

Talented software developers from Weaseltron contributed to building the infrastructure, technical art wizards, rendering pipeline, remaster engine, and much of the work on the PC version of Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered.

A team of skilled artists from Stellar Entertainment worked with us to renovate the surroundings, lighting, clouds and landscapes. Their engineers also included many accessibility features from Horizon Forbidden West in the remake.

I couldn’t be more proud of the entire team! The talent and dedication everyone poured into this project made our shared vision a reality.
