No, RedNote is not the new TikTok – and here’s why

i used this instruct to learn how to navigate the app due to language barriers. The instructions detail how to change your settings to English. However, although changing the settings makes it easier to use, there are still limited English translations when viewing other people’s posts, mainly Chinese users.

After selecting my “interests” and following some “moots” (general followers) from TikTok that I knew were moving to RedNote, my Explore page started suggesting fashion/style content recipes, cooking videos of Chinese dishes, beauty content and educational videos of Chinese society, culture and customs. Surprisingly, I also saw a lot of content from users outside of China because I was following similar content from TikTok.

I find that RedNote has some similarities to TikTok, Instagram’s Reels, and YouTube Shorts in that your Explore page will be a mix of short video clips and posts related to your interests and content you watched and liked. However, RedNote has more curated sections than other apps I’ve seen. You can see sections dedicated to household products, food, fashion, travel, music, movies/TV, skin care, art, emotions, and even “popular science.” I assume it’s because users can create content tied to specific products.
