Original 1980 1/144 Gundam Model Kit Returns

1/144 scale revival of the plastic model kit of the 1980 Gundunda available on display at Shizuoka hobby program. This kit will be available for consumers to purchase and build in the future.

While the kit itself will allow us to build a model very similar to the original Gunpla 1980, there are some improvements to the 2024 version. For starters, the parts are quality taller and colored, making them easier to identify and eliminating the need for painting. The parts also fit together, reducing the need for glue. This makes Gunpla much more accessible to even amateur hobbyists. Some with more demanding hobbyists may not like this change, as some builders build their own models to personalize them.

It’s also a way to see how much Bandai’s technology has advanced since the 1980s. An advertisement for the set also mentions this, stating that the Gunpla does not contain miniature Amuro but it does contain 45 years of Bandai’s experience and technological advancements. This revived set celebrates its 45th anniversary Mobile SuitGundamappeared in 1979.

The 1980 Gunpla kit is on display at the Shizuoka Hobby Show. Other kits you can check out there include a Armored core 6 Steel Haze Model Kit and a Yu-Gi-Oh Ra’s winged dragon.
