Park Hyatt Sapporo to open in Hokkaido in 2029

A fourth Park Hyatt is coming to Japan. But you’ll have to wait a few years to check in.

Park Hyatt Sapporo will debut in Hokkaido Prefecture in northern Japan in 2029. The ultra-luxury hotel will complement the Park Hyatt Niseko Hanazono, a luxury ski resort in Hokkaido, as well as the Park Hyatt Tokyo and Park Hyatt Kyoto. Park Hyatt Sapporo will occupy the 27th to 35th floors of a tower under construction at the intersection of Odori Park and Sapporo Ekimae-dori, the city’s main commercial and business thoroughfare.

The Park Hyatt portion of the Kengo Kuma-designed tower will feature 157 guest rooms and suites. Few details about the hotel are available, other than that it will offer “world-class dining and wellness experiences, an indoor pool, and inspiring meeting and event spaces.” But the new property offers another ultra-luxury option to earn and redeem World of Hyatt points when visiting Japan.

Park Hyatt Sapporo is Hyatt’s second collaboration with Heiwa Real Estate, a developer also behind the Caption by Hyatt Kabutocho Tokyo, scheduled to open in 2025.

“We sincerely thank them for their confidence in Hyatt and are honored to partner with them to enhance our luxury offerings in this dynamic city,” said David Udell, president, Asia Pacific, Hyatt. “We are excited to be part of Sapporo’s ongoing transformation as more discerning business and leisure travelers, including World of Hyatt members, head north to explore Hokkaido.”

Park Hyatt’s new announcement comes amid a rejuvenation and expansion of Hyatt across Japan. The hotel giant currently has 21 hotels in the country across nine brands. The Hyatt Centric brand is expected to debut in Sapporo in 2026, the same year Hyatt is expected to open its first Japan-specific ryokan brand, Athena.
