Pokemon voice actress Rachael Lillis passes away


Rachael Lillis, voice actor for Misty and Jessie in the original Pokemon English dub, died August 10, 2024. She was 46 years old and died of breast cancer.

Eric Stuart, who voiced Brock and James in the English version Pokemon voiceover, posted a message from Veronica Taylor (who plays Ash) sharing the news. He also paid tribute, calling her his partner in the crime comedy and telling everyone to watch the original Pokemon dub to commemorate her life. Veronica’s message mentioned Rachael’s life’s work, as well as the support people showed her throughout her battle with cancer. Lillis’ sister created a GoFundMe campaign for her in May 2024.

The Pokemon Twitter account also posted a memorial note. The note stated that her talent and work on the animated series brought the characters to life, and that she would be remembered for generations to come. The note concluded with thoughts and condolences for her friends and family.

In addition to her roles as Misty and Jessie, she has voiced several Pokemon species throughout the animated series and games. She has been Jigglypuff, Goldeen, Torchic, Beautifly, and Vulpix. Lillis is also Cocco in Hunter x Hunter: The Final MissionPrincess Charlotte in Rageand Utena in Revolutionary Girl Utena: The Movie. Note, Tomoko Kawakami, the Japanese voice actress for Utena, also died of cancer. She had ovarian cancer and died on 2011 at age 41

A memorial service for Rachael Lillis will be held at some point in the future.
