Quidditch Champions – New Gameplay Overview – PlayStation.Blog

Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin students have long shown their house pride in the enchanting sport of Quidditch, which is featured throughout the Harry Potter books and films. Famous witches and wizards have competed in Quidditch and with Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, launching on September 3 as a PlayStation Plus Monthly Game on PS5 and PS4, we’re giving players the chance to take flight and experience this magical game for themselves.

Next is the new look of the game, including gameplay mechanics, modes, character customization, etc.

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions – new gameplay overview

From the very beginning of development, we recognised that Quidditch, with its deep roots in wizarding tradition, deserved a game built from the ground up that truly captured its competitive spirit and delivered an authentic experience. We knew that creating a standalone game was essential to focus on the unique mechanics and features of Quidditch, ensuring a rich and engaging experience that fans could fully enjoy.

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is an immersive, dynamic experience that captures the essence of what makes Quidditch special. Whether you’re a seasoned competitive gamer or a Harry Potter enthusiast, we wanted to create a game for everyone. This means including a wealth of unlockable content to upgrade and customize your gear and character – all of which can only be earned through gameplay – along with a variety of game modes from single-player to online co-op to multiplayer PvP.

Quidditch History Review

New to Quidditch or need a refresher? We’ve got you covered.

Quidditch is a wizarding sport played on broomsticks, in which two teams compete against each other with the aim of scoring as many points as possible. Points can be gained by throwing the Quaffle (a ball) through the hoop at the end of the pitch or by catching the Golden Snitch (a small golden ball with fluttering silver wings). Interestingly, when creating a Snitch, the creators must wear gloves as they are designed to remember who first touched them – this certainly comes in handy when there are arguments about which team caught it.

The first Quidditch World Cup was held in 1473 and for the first few centuries, it was limited to teams from Europe. Harry Potter got to watch the 422nd Quidditch World Cup final in 1994 – a thrilling match between Ireland and Bulgaria, although much of the action took place off the pitch.

Capture the spirit of Quidditch

We’ve worked hard to balance the game to capture the essence of Quidditch as envisioned in the books and films, while still playing like a modern video game. For example, catching the Golden Snitch doesn’t end the game, and it’s now worth 30 points – enough to recover if a team is falling behind or help secure a win if a team is ahead. This adaptation makes the Golden Snitch a powerful game mechanic, while still allowing all roles to influence the game equally.

We also wanted to immerse players in the wizarding world. Players could customize their own avatar or choose to be one of their favorite characters from all eras of the series: Quidditch players like Harry Potter, Draco Malfoy, Cho Chang, Ron Weasley, and Cedric Diggory, as well as fan favorites like Hermione Granger, just to name a few. We also wanted to expand the competition beyond Hogwarts, imagining a Triwizard Quidditch Cup where Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, and the elusive Durmstrang Institute would compete against their best players.

Available with PlayStation Plus at launch

And that’s just the beginning. We’re excited that PlayStation Plus members can redeem the Standard Edition of the game at no additional cost from September 3rd through September 30th.
