Random: Artist’s Pokémon and Paper Mario Fusion Is Absolutely Awesome

We’ve toyed with the idea of a ‘Paper Zelda’ game before, but ‘Paper Pokémon’? That wasn’t what we thought we needed. Until today.

Animation and Artist Spy has created a Pokémon-meet-Paper Mario: The Millennium Door The mash-up looks awesome. In the video above, you can witness the battle between Riolu/Ralts and Mawile/”Eevee” (although there’s something shady about Mawile/”Eevee”), lovingly recreated in the backdrop of a Paper Mario movie.

The details here are spot-on, from the Poké Ball-adorned curtain at the beginning to all the ‘mon supporters sitting in the audience. What Spyrook really does have going for it, though, is Paper Mario-style humor, with Mawile popping in between attacks to tell us how the fight is “rigged.”

The reenactment even features a remixed version of the Pokémon Battle Theme from Danirbu to really emphasize this intersection.

In short, it’s awesome. The concept of a Paper Pokémon game might not have been around before, but now? We can see it.
