Random: Helldivers Studio once introduced a high-flying rail shooter inspired by Star Fox
Hell diver 2 is one of Sony’s bigger successes of 2024, catapulting its developer Arrowhead Studio to unexpected levels of fame. Why are we talking about this on Nintendo’s website? Well, while the team shooter may not have much in common with House of Mario, one of the studio’s older game concepts does: an arcade rail shooter inspired by… wait for it It… fox stars.
That’s according to a statement from Arrowhead CCO and Helldivers 2 creative director Johan Pilestedtwho, in a New Year’s post on Twitter, asked fans what they hope to see from the studio in the future, while also highlighting some of the group’s previous prototypes (thanks for your interest, European gamers).
Answer one fan suggestions As for a “Star Fox style game”, Pilestedt revealed that Arrowhead once came up with the exact idea for that. With the tentative title “Eagles of Democracy”, studio CCO stated that the game “will essentially try to capture Star Fox” in its combination of arcade and platform gameplay, and it even went as far as building a prototype in Unreal to showcase it.

We think it’s highly unlikely that anything from the Sony-published Helldivers team will appear on a Nintendo console any time soon, but the mere mention of Star Fox has us wishing again want to reboot the series – come on, Nintendo, the Wii U entries were released almost 10 years ago!
