Review: Spy x Anya is a Spy x Family Pokemon Snap Game
While there are interesting, suspenseful moments in the lives of spy Loid Forger, assassin Yor Forger, and psychic Anya Forger, the series is largely Day by dayslice of life experience Spy x Anya: Operation Memoryfirst major Spy x Family The game really achieves that by focusing on Anya trying to complete her schoolwork. While the nature of taking every photo means it gets a little repetitive and has an awkward start, it eventually becomes a fun little simulation game about family and taking photos of Anya at key moments as if she were an ever-present Pikachu. Pokemon capture.
I was actually a bit confused when Spy x Anya: Operation Memory begin, as there is no opening story to set the scene for Spy x Family game. Instead, Anya Forger is in her class at Eden Academy and a tutorial covers the controls right away. It doesn’t even explain the whole purpose of the game until I learn how to move Anya, the camera, talk to people, and go home. It’s only when she returns home to her parents Loid and Yor that the whole purpose of the game is revealed in a flashback. One of her latest assignments is to create a diary. Since she wants to make it great and impress her “Second Son” Damian Desmond to help her father who is actually a spy on a mission involving Donovan Desmond, her family agrees to help her go out to make memories.
It’s a tough choice for sure. I’m very familiar with Spy x FamilyThanks to reading the manga and watching the anime, I had no problem catching up on what was going on in the game right away. However, those unfamiliar with it will be completely left in the dark. Something as simple as a brief introduction with Anya explaining who she is, her psychic powers, why her “father” Loid created the fake family, and that her “mother” Yor is actually an assassin, would have been helpful and made the transition into the experience easier and smoother.
As you go through the tutorials, it will become quite clear that Spy x Anya: Operation Memory Is one Pokemon capture game type that combines mini-games and the opportunity to interact with the cast Spy x Family with costumes and photo shoots. Anya will attend a family meeting where the destination for her next outing will be chosen. While waiting for that day to arrive, she will attend school and spend time at home. At both locations, there will be opportunities to chat with members of the cast of the show, forming relationships with them and creating memories. There will also be opportunities to interact with items that Anya finds particularly interesting to take pictures of for her diary.
These shots are their own little game. You need to focus, make sure the angle is right so you can capture everyone or a focal point, and then time the shot to get the perfect shot. A three-frame visual indicator will let you know when that moment has come. This is combined with plenty of opportunities to repeat the moment, so you can be sure you’ll get a perfect three-star shot for your journal, showing that the focus, angle, and timing are perfect. You can do one of these at school every day and another at home every evening.
In case of outings in Spy x Anya: Operation MemoryThose are a little more complicated. You have the opportunity to purchase items from the in-game store using points earned from photos and mini-games. These can be used at certain points in the field to create special memories and photo activities. It also makes the prospect of buying or earning more raffle outfits and accessories more appealing, as everyone’s appearance changes when you do. There are missions with rewards like raffle tickets for completing certain missions. Additionally, taking photos with all three of the special items assigned to an area will unlock an additional photo.
The actual unlocking appears quite a bit, but it is handled in such a way that in Spy x Anya: Operation Memory that it doesn’t feel too burdensome. New play options open up as you complete the tutorial and view existing ones. So do a lot of clothes, accessories, and items. Although honestly, in the case of cosmetics, they’re more of a nice bonus than a requirement. Given how cute Anya is and how loyal Loid and Yor look, it’s perfectly fine and doesn’t feel too restrictive if you don’t overspend.
Additional outings and the like also unlock new mini-games, which Anya can play in the evenings to earn Play Points that can be spent on items in the shop if she uses the Eureka she’s earned. Honestly, the quality of these games varies greatly. I didn’t enjoy the Cooking With You experience, as the timing seemed off for chopping vegetables. I enjoyed the basic brawler that involved Princess Thorn taking down waves of enemies as she made her way toward a boss. Dodgeball Day at Eden College and Loid’s stealth escape mini-game weren’t bad either. I appreciated the attempt to provide more variety and a more series-appropriate experience than most other mini-game collections.
I think the place Spy x Anya: Operation Memory success is the game actually feels like a real game Spy x Family experience. It’s cozy in its way, simulating everyday life as the Forger family would probably like it to be. Anya is allowed to overplay her hand as a character, and her personality helps carry that forward. It also looks accurate, with some great recreations, and the voice acting helps sell it too. The only downside is the repetitive nature, as you’ll need to repeat outings and go through a lot of the same mini-games and moves to unlock everything for Anya’s wonderful diary.
However, I still like it. Spy x Anya: Operation Memory more than I expected, although this Spy x Family The game feels a little clunky and repetitive at times. I would have appreciated a more straightforward introduction to the experience and less of a tutorial, but it’s completely enjoyable and true to the series it’s based on. As long as you’re not trying to speedrun or marathon it in a single week, I think it’s a great game to play at a leisurely pace.
Spy x Anya: Operation Memoryavailable for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC. Spy x Family The anime is streaming on Crunchyroll, while Viz Media handles the manga outside of Japan..
