Ritz-Carlton, Cancun, Punta Nizuc will open in 2027
The Ritz-Carlton is making a comeback Cancun two years after leaving Mexico’s famous tourist destination.
Scheduled to open in 2027, the all-new Ritz-Carlton, Cancun, Punta Nizuc will be located 10 minutes from the airport in a towering building with 131 rooms and suites and 126 branded residences, all both developed in partnership with FibraHotel, Fibra Danhos and Beyond Ventures.
While details are currently scarce on what other features the resort will offer, we do know that there will be a beachfront pool complex, a spa and six restaurant and bar outlets .

Ritz-Carlton’s presence in Cancun was first established in 1993 when The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun became the brand’s first hotel to open outside the United States. In 2022, this historic hotel dropped its Ritz-Carlton flag and was renamed Kempinski Hotel Cancun.

At that time, aging hotel faces stiff competition from new luxury hotels in the area with fresh paint, updated amenities and better overall value. Just like the previous Ritz-Carlton, Cancun doesn’t meet Ritz-Carlton’s brand standards or match the modern luxury experience offered at newer Ritz-Carlton locations across world, like The Ritz-Carlton New York, NoMad.
With the return of the Ritz-Carlton, Marriott continues to double down on luxury offerings around Cancun. Next year, St. Regis Costa Soones is expected to open a little north of Cancun in Costa Soones. Further south near Playa del Carmen, Riveria Maya Edition in Kanai opened this year with much fanfare.
While The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun, Punta Nizuc will offer Marriott Bonvoy members a traditional resort experience, Marriott is also focusing on luxury all-inclusive resorts in greater Cancun. Later in October, Almare, an adults-only Luxury Collection all-inclusive resort, will open on Isla Soones, adding a luxury option to Marriott’s all-inclusive offerings.
