Rosewood Just Opened a Hotel in a 15th-Century Castle in Austria

Luxury hotel brand Rosewood has a picturesque new property outside Salzburg, Austria, one of its best places to travel in july 2024.

Called Rosewood Schloss Fuschl, the hotel is housed in a restored 15th-century castle, offering visitors to Austria a luxurious stay while still enjoying the brand’s casual luxury feel—all while nestled alongside the Austrian Alps and the beauty of Lake Fuschl.

Guests at Rosewood Schloss Fuschl will find 98 guest rooms, including 42 suites and six chalets, in and around what was once a hunting lodge built for the prince archbishops of Salzburg in 1461. Over the years—centuries, actually—Schloss Fuschl has been home to many dignitaries, royalty, and celebrities, and was even where Mozart came to compose music.

Today, the hotel’s rooms feature large windows overlooking the lake, rainfall showerheads and marble bathrooms, heated floors, artwork by Austrian artists, a variety of pillows, and other high-end amenities like Nespresso coffee machines.

For more space, the chalets range from one to three bedrooms, with lake views, private outdoor spaces, fireplaces, and even private saunas.

The hotel’s website claims that dining at Rosewood is “a culinary journey through authentic Salzkammergut cuisine,” with the Schloss Restaurant serving classic Austrian dishes alongside experimental dishes, like Austrian blood sausage gyoza (blunzn) with sauerkraut, and a wine collection of more than 1,400 varieties.

Alternatively, guests can relax by the fireplace surrounded by hand-painted walls by Austrian artist Marie Hartig at the Schloss Bar or enjoy pastries and sip tea at the Sisi Teesalon, inspired by the hotel’s role in the 1950s “Sissi” film trilogy.

Other places to dine, sip or gather include Vinothek, a wine bar that welcomes visitors, hikers and people-watchers; Seeterrasse, with lake views and a “mountain-to-sea” menu; and Schloss Fuschl See Club, open to guests and non-guests alike, with cabana rentals, water views, a wide selection of seafood and live music.

A place as beautiful as Lake Fuschl calls for a little self-reflection and pampering—and that’s where Asaya Spa comes in. The spa offers an extensive treatment menu, indoor and outdoor pools, a hair salon, and a gym. Plus, guests can embark on multi-day wellness itineraries that can help detoxify the body or improve sleep.
