Rumor: Konami and Square Enix expected to bolster ‘Switch 2’ software library with key IP
Followed last week supposed ‘Switch 2’ hardware leakMore hints about the software line are currently circulating online.
In addition to the expected “more than half a dozen Ubisoft games”, Nate the Hate declared on his latest podcast Nintendo’s new system could also have a follow-up system from Konami Solid metal gears game. Here’s what he had to say:
“Some of the other third-party games I’ve heard about include Metal Gear Solid: Delta, which is coming out in 2025…I’m hoping that it will probably be released on the same day and date when it becomes available on Switch 2.”
The source added that Square Enix is also preparing for release Final Fantasy VII Remake on new Nintendo consoles in 2025, with reborn seems likely to appear in 2026. As for the latest entry, it seems less likely:
“I’ve had some people ask me if Final Fantasy 16 will come to Switch 2, and to my knowledge, 16 is not currently planned for Switch 2 – Square Enix is prioritizing Remake and Rebirth, because those are more iconic games, Cloud is an iconic character compared to Final Fantasy 16, which was a good game but didn’t really appeal to many people.”
At the end of the piece, he mentions that all “major third-party developers” are looking at a “port array” and suggests targeting developers who have partnered with “Nvidia to introduce introducing DLSS” and “even ray tracing” on their game, to give an idea of what else is possible on the new platform.
As always these are just rumors, so take everything here with a grain of salt. The reveal of the Switch is expected to take place during the current and possible fiscal year happened very early.
