Rumor: New ‘Switch 2’ leak suggests the console will require a 60W charger
Another day, another ‘Switch 2’ leak, folks! This comes from a respected culture/outreach consultant Laura Kate Dalewho posted what appears to be a new image of the upcoming successor’s dock.
Dale says this image is from a reliable source, and while it doesn’t show much about the actual design of the dock, it does include some information about the input and output voltages. Displayed on the dock itself, the text states that the input voltage is 20V, while the output voltage is 15V. For comparison, the OLED Switch dock shows both input and output as 15V.
Additionally, Dale says that the new console will likely ship with a 60W charger. This is a significant leap over the requirements of the current Switch dock, which accepts a 39W charger. The obvious implication of this is that the original Switch charger will likely not be compatible with the upcoming Switch 2, and this information also corroborates what Reddit user ‘NextHandheld’ told The Verge a few weeks ago.
It’s currently unclear why the input voltage is higher with the upcoming successor, but our theory is that it could be due to additional accessories being plugged into the given additional USB slot. is at the top. We can’t say for sure until Nintendo itself reveals more information.
We know this isn’t the most exciting leak in the world, but it’s a bit of information to ponder while we wait for the official reveal from Nintendo. We also recently saw what appears to be Final constructed model of the left Joy-Concomplete with a mysterious new optical sensor. Some people have theorized what this could mean Joy-Con can be used as a mouse.
