Thanks to a bit of cheeky data mining, it looks like Nintendo may be considering implementing SNES Mouse support for Nintendo Switch Online, potentially opening the door for releases like Mario Paint and only in Japan Mario and Wario.

This comes from a trusted dataminer LuigiBlood (interesting name) and reported by VGC. Obviously, Nintendo Switch Online’s SNES emulator has always had the necessary support to implement the SNES Mouse, but NSO’s most recent update has significantly updated the data.

The update reportedly revealed evidence of compatibility for both controller ports, the ability to implement SNES Mouse input playback, and code that effectively configures and modifies the behavior of the SNES Mouse. It is speculated that the latter in particular will allow the SNES Mouse to be used in more accessible ways than via USB.

It’s all still vague at the moment, and the truth is we’d be surprised if anything actually materialises from all of this. However, it would prove to be a deep cut for Nintendo Switch Online and a very welcome surprise for SNES fans.

For now, we’re going with the four new SNES games that have been added to the online service for standard subscribers. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out our chart of every SNES game on the service, so you know exactly which ones to boot up first.
