Sanrio Plushes reimagines the mascots as Chuuni criminals

Taito has more Some major Sanrios enjoy their pick-up games, with mascots dressed as chuuni criminals. You can also try getting these stuffed animals from Taito’s online crane service.

You can get four types of stuffed animals: Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, Badtz-Maru, and Kuromi. Kuromi and Cinnamoroll are wearing eyepatches and earbands. Hello Kitty doesn’t have an eye patch but she is winking. Badtz-Maru had both eyes closed, and both he and Hello Kitty wore badges around their arms. Badtz-Maru’s outfit closely resembles the stereotype of a Japanese thug, complete with a red shirt and an open gakuran.

These plushies are from Sanrio’s School of Darkness series. It reimagines the mascots as students living an extraordinary daily life in a school that has been swallowed by darkness. This is a pretty chuuni type of setting, which explains the bandages wrapped around the characters.

For those who don’t know, chuunibyou or Middle School Syndrome is a term that describes the way in which children around thirteen or fourteen years old may act shyly. “Symptoms” include convincing those around them that they are smarter than they look (using terms and words that sound cool but may not be appropriate in everyday conversation) or that they have special powers and abilities. People with chuunibyou may find bandages cool thanks to characters like Hiei (Yu Yu Hakusho) and Dazai (Bungo the Stray Dog) have them.

Sanrio School of Darkness plush items are available in the Taito crane game.
