Shining Diamond’s Devil’s Heart Manga

There are times in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure series where we meet charismatic supporting characters but don’t spend much time getting to know them or seeing what they’re up to. Sometimes, these characters are even villains. Their charisma may be undeniable, and there may even be elements that make them seem like they’re not always “bad.” JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Shining Diamond’s Demonic Pain put that situation front and center, due to this spin-off manga stars DIO’s former ally Hol Horse as he helps someone who cannot go to the Speedwagon Foundation for help. At the same time, those who may not have focused much on the main series will get more attention in the spin-off Kohei Kadono and Tasuku Karasuma.

Editor’s note: There will be some minor spoilers about the first episode of the series. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Shining Diamond’s Demonic Pain comic below.

Before Pet Shop was one of DIO’s agents, the falcon was a normal bird. DIO killed his trainer and ended up capturing the parrot in the process. EQUAL JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Shining Diamond’s Demonic Pain started, the man’s mother turned to Hol Horse to find the missing bird. She thought as a former participant, he would be able to bring the bird back and not kill it in the process.

From the beginning, all of Hol Horse’s style was maintained within JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Shining Diamond’s Demonic Pain, although this spin-off manga is not written by Hirohiko Araki. There are some other additions to his character that are a bit unusual, such as a new obsession with time that appears even in the first 20 pages, but it makes sense. In a way, it’s almost a bit forced at first, as he’s always upheld his respect for women and flirtatious nature even when the mother tasks him and Mariah right away. Later. But then I saw it as a means to quickly establish his character for people who were perhaps more familiar with him. Diamonds are unbreakable and will come to this side story because of Josuke Higashikata’s appearance rather than Stardust Crusaders elements.

Especially early on, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Shining Diamond’s Demonic Pain The manga is interested in focusing on the lives of people like Hol Horse, Mariah, Billie Jean, Oingo, and Boingo. When old allies reunited when he came to meet and recruit Boingo, the subject of working for DIO came up again. Mariah recounted all of that so hauntingly that she still has nightmares. Likewise, Boingo was so affected that he told Hol Horse after this mission to completely forget about him. Not to mention that our new hero’s habit of wearing multiple watches is due to his near-death experience in Stardust Crusaderseven when he insists that he wears as many watches as his character Tetsuya Nomura wears belts for “fashion.” When the story reaches Morioh and we see Hol Horse face the reality and influence of DIO again, we can see firsthand how deeply it affects him and how he will accept his decisions.

Even though the injury DIO caused still caused trouble in the real world and affected those who worked with him, the decision was made to choose Hol Horse as their leader. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Shining Diamond’s Demonic Pain helps a lot with the tone of the book. He is getting a chance to redeem himself after some extremely cowardly acts in Stardust Crusaders. He is fun to tag along because of his exaggerated personality, calling out all the Japanese schoolgirls Oshin girls while trying to investigate Boingo’s sudden disappearance, and he is still ready to run away at a moment’s notice when he thinks he is in danger in a one-on-one fight.

Implementation JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Shining Diamond’s Demonic Pain is actually quite clever, because by using Hol Horse and his new allies to go on this quest to tie up loose ends, we’ll have more time with those who can there aren’t many moments and notice lingering influences from other stories. Additionally, by involving Josuke Higashikata, it also ties the different parts of the story together. It’s actually quite charming and engaging, and I’m glad that Viz Media picked it up for release outside of Japan.

Volume 1 of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Shining Diamond’s Demonic Pain is available now and Viz Media will Release volume 2 of the manga on February 4, 2025.
