Balatro
Balatro is one of those games that hooks you immediately. The moment you encounter your first Jokers, the game’s appeal and its potential are abundantly clear, and consistent play shows that solo developer LocalThunk knows exactly how to see through these that idea. Writers like to talk about the idea of “setting a new standard for the genre,” but that’s never been truer than with Balatro and roguelike deck builders: from now on, every new game has to be worth playing instead of of another round BalatroAnd that’s a high bar to exceed.
gargle
gargle is a relatively short experience, lasting only a few hours. However, it contained enough psychological and physical horror for its time to rival its passive media equivalents. We won’t talk about the game’s surprising plot twists to avoid spoilers, but you will definitely want! And that is the sign of a success story. Winner: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Good, we called it. reborn has revived our faith in The ultimate illusion with a game that is great on its own and only enhanced by knowledge of older versions. And while some titles put in serious competition, nothing could topple Square Enix’s crown jewel from the top of the Siliconera podium. Congratulations to our 2024 Game of the Year!
