Spirit Airlines cuts 32 routes in latest network revamp
Spirit Airlines is making more big changes to its network.
The Dania Beach, Florida-based carrier filed plans over the weekend to exit the 32-route giant, as first seen in Cirium’s schedule and later reported by a carrier spokesman. transfer confirmation.
The full list of affected routes is available below, but highlights include seven flights cut from Boston, one of the hardest hit airports on this list.
From Boston, Spirit will stop flying to Charleston, South Carolina; Columbus, Ohio; Kansas City, Missouri; Chicago; Nashville; Pittsburgh; and Norfolk, Virginia. It’s interesting to see Spirit get rid of so many routes from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), which has been in the news recently for new competition among existing airlines.
Delta Air Lines and JetBlue are fierce struggle for dominance in Boston, and the two airlines have added new routes and increased their presence to win the local market. Perhaps there is so much competition among the incumbents that Spirit can no longer take these routes.
The airline is also pulling out of some popular routes that have a lot of competition, such as Atlanta to Chicago and Charlotte to Chicago.
Spirit’s cuts have been updated in the airline’s schedule, and affected customers will be eligible for full refunds or rerouting on other Spirit flights.
Notably, some of the affected routes have been cut back in recent months, but as part of this update, Spirit will stop flying them altogether. In total, Spirit is reducing capacity in November and December by about 15% and 17%, respectively, compared to the previous week, according to Cirum’s schedule.

In recent months, Spirit has been aggressively making changes to its network in an effort to return to profitability. The airline has posted a net loss of more than $2 billion since 2020, so there’s no doubt that Spirit is doing what it can to return to profitability.

Furthermore, in May, Spirit added a new, rare shuttle route from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). The 247-mile route is already full service, but Spirit likely hopes it will help open up new connecting journeys for its customers.
More New connection options has ranked high on Spirit’s list of priorities this year. The airline has focused on slowing growth in Florida and adding new flights, such as the Dallas-to-Houston route, which will attract both outgoing and incoming traffic, as well as connecting passengers .
It has also restructured its commercial strategy, giving up many elements of its basic business model in return Ticket price includes accessories such as bags, seats and even snacks and drinks.
