Stores open, closed on Thanksgiving 2024: Grocery stores, retailers, Walmart, Target and more
Friends and family arrive in a few hours—and you realize you didn’t buy enough potatoes. Or maybe you burned the cake. Maybe the turkey is still frozen.
Don’t panic. Dinner can be served in time, but if you’re hoping to do some early holiday shopping at the same time as purchasing those ingredients, it can be a little more complicated.
Some grocery chains will be open on Thanksgiving, the most food-centric of all holidays in the United States. But major retailers will largely be closed, as the trend of getting people to start their Black Friday sales before the tables are empty on Thanksgiving has slowed significantly.
Of course, there are exceptions on both fronts. Some grocery stores are giving their employees time off to spend with their families—and some retailers will remain open, hoping to attract early birds and gravy spillers. tablecloth.
