Super Pocket Technos and Atari offer more Evercade options

Super Mega Technology! The Super Pocket from manufacturer Evercade Blaze Entertainment is intended to be an easy entry point to their cartridge ecosystem, as well as an affordable standalone stocking stuffer. We looked in first two devices in the row, introduce games that integrate words Capcom And Taitobut now the company has added two more options: Technos and Atari.

The Super Pocket is a $60 device that has all the gaming capabilities of the Evercade EXP handheld and fits into the shape of a particularly sturdy bar of soap. There are some compromises, as we discussed previously: the inputs are a bit stiffer, and the shoulder button placement isn’t the best. It seems like it would be a good fit for kids, though we see it better suited to adult life as a portable companion to the TV-mounted Evercade VS (and VS-R). That way, if you’re really serious about playing something, you can upgrade your setup in a pinch but still keep a pocketable option.

For the first time in Evercade’s history, these Super Pockets cause licensing overlap. The first two were Capcom, a company that Blaze found it easier to license as integrated software, and Taito, which only appeared on that one device. The second wave of Super Pockets, Technos and Atari? Those companies have a history with Evercade. That said, both of those licensor carts are out of print, so it might not affect many of you?

However, if you want to know the breakdown, here it is! Technos Super Pocket contains 15 games. Five on the Technos home cart: Crash ‘n’ the Boys, Double Dragon, Super double dragon, Super Spike V’Ball And River City Ransom. Three from that cart failed: the NES version of Double Dragon 2, betray And The ball is super dodged. Six extras are included in the Technos arcade collection: Block, The Combat Ribes, Double Dragon 2, Double Dragon 3, Minky Monkey And Mysterious stones. Only motorbike action games remain Battle of Alley Vol. 5 and wrestling titles Manic challenge because that shopping cart is only exclusive goods.

Blaze’s brand new titles on the Technos model are Game Boy ports of the Double Dragonarcade version of The ball is super dodged and original video games Double Dragon free. It’s probably understandable that these aren’t on the old carts—none of them are really fancy versions of their games—but for Technos fans, they’re great to have. see them here.

The Atari Super Pocket has up to 50 games, so there’s a lot of overlap and an extensive list of exclusives! So let’s look specifically at the new games. First, this is an opportunity to fill in the gaps in Blaze’s already generous representation of Lynx. Have Kung FoodThe grocery store-themed beat-’em-up game is known for how weird it is. Rounding the selection is Dirty Larry: Traitor cop, Robo-Squash, Secondary turbo And war bird.

This also marked the first appearance of the Atari 5200. Bounty Bob Strikes Back!, countermeasures, The ultimate legacy, Miner 2049’er And Xari Arena makes for a rather flattering cameo for the ill-fated system’s library. As we discovered when covering Atari 50that platform does not necessarily require software support to be successful. Still! Nice to see. There are also some other exclusives! Like maybe you’re a big fan of Berzerk And Frantic? That said, players have plenty of opportunities to get cheap devices with some Atari games installed on them. So it’s cool that it’s part of the lineup, but probably less interesting to more interested audiences.

We noted this when talking about the first batch, but this approach really allows them to make the system interesting just by swapping colors. Technos comes in blue and white, while Atari comes in black and red. There’s even a limited edition woodgrain pattern, which is a nice touch! This larger range introduces the ability to swap decorative cartridge slot covers, but with the options available, we’re not sure any of them make sense. (Also, a small note: the white in the Technos sample is not the off-white of all Evercade cartridges, so be prepared for it to not match.) Overall, we’re people Big fan of Technos here, but we understand choosing an Atari model as a blind gift for a young relative. Those games are timeless for a reason.
